If you would have noticed the new iPod Nano that Steve Jobs launched during the Music Event, you would have had a feeling that OS behind those awesome looking nanos’ would be some stripped down version of iOS.

But these nanos are actually not running any version of iOS. This was confirmed by an Apple spokesperson, who noted that this firmware is simply meant to resemble iOS, and in fact behaves very different in some circumstances. The main limitation is an inability to load third-party apps.

The all new iTunes 10 is now available for download. Jailbroken iPhones seem to work well with this version as well. At least in my case. There is something real cool and real new with iTunes 10. Called the Ping, its like iTunes and Twitter/Last.FM together. I just created my account on Ping. Dint find my band, but this service will grow for sure. Looks like its dead easy to work with.
“One of the biggest things we focused on with iTunes is discovery. With over 12m songs, how do you find out about new stuff? People are always asking what are my friends listening to, what are my favorite artists up to? There’s not a great way to do that, there must be a better way,” says Jobs.

Basically Ping is a social network based around music. Once you click on Ping, you see the recent activity of the friends and artists you are following, which shows you the music they are listening to and endorsing. You can even be alerted to concerts.
Ping is live now and is available to up to 160 million iTunes users in over 23 countries. I am on it as well and my handle is ‘HarHar Mahadev’
. See you there. I am looking for something cool under World Fusion (spiritual/sufism)

Yesterday, Apple tried to revive Apple TV. Apple TV has been struggling from a long time because of various reason. Steve launched an all new Apple TV just 1/4 the size of the old one. Packed with built-in power supply, HDMI, ethernet and 802.11n wireless, this version seems to have the right punch in it. Available for just $99 vs $249. Lets wait and see how this does in coming days.
“The new Apple TV, paired with the largest selection of online HD movie and TV show rentals, lets users watch Hollywood content on their HD TV whenever they want,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “This tiny, silent box costing just $99 lets users watch thousands of HD movies and TV shows, and makes all of their music, photos and videos effortlessly available on their home entertainment system.”

You’ll be able to get HD Hollywood movies day and date with the DVD/BD for $4.99 and older content will cost less. TV shows from ABC and FOX will cost $0.99. With Netflix integration and with AirPlay (the newly rebranded, expanded AirTunes) one will be able to stream audio, video, and photos from any iOS.

For the first I experienced what it is like being a part of a live event at Apple. Thanks to Apple’s live streaming of the entire event, I followed every bit of the event on my iPhone. It was seamless and dint buffer even for a single second. Amazing. Coming to the iPhone bit of the event, Steve Jobs began by introducing iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch and said that it will show up by next week. iOS 4.1 will fix proximity sensor, bluetooth and will also fix iPhone 3G sluggishness.

And few cool new features in iOS 4.1 will include High Dynamic Range photos, the ability to upload HD video over Wi-Fi, TV show rentals, and a Game Center. Game Center looks to be too cool for all kinds of gamers.

Looks like Apple might update iPhone 4 with a new antenna by as early as October this year. In fact I called up Apple India Customer Care yesterday to check by when iPhone 4 would be launched here. There wasn’t any official confirmation, but looked the customer care rep was positive about early October release. If this happens, we should get the updated iPhone 4 too. And it would through Airtel and Vodafone this time as well. If early October launch is confirmed, the price would most probably hover between Rs.36,000-37,000 for a 16GB and Rs.41,000-42,000 for 32GB version.
Anyways coming back to this latest rumor, Macrumors has shared this bit of information that a Mexican tech news site Canal MX suggests a hardware fix for the iPhone 4’s well-known shortcoming could arrive by the end of September.
CanalMX reports [Google translation] on comments from an executive at Mexican carrier Telcel claiming that Apple is set to release a revised version of the iPhone 4 by the end of September to address the highly-publicized antenna issue. Telcel began offering the iPhone 4 in Mexico last Friday as part of a quiet expansion that saw the device also come to the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia.

The veracity of Quatorze’s claim is unknown, as it is unclear whether a carrier executive at his level would even be privy to such information, and it is possible that he may simply be mistaken in his understanding of Apple’s September 30th expiration date for the free case program. At Apple’s iPhone 4 press conference last month, Steve Jobs noted that the free case program was launched with an initial expiration date of September 30th to provide the company with time to continue its investigation of the antenna issue and perhaps come up with a better solution for future customers.
We will have to anyways wait till Sept 30th to know if iPhone 4 would have an updated antenna or not. Lets see what happens.

This is interesting. For the first time, Apple will be streaming today’s event live. But you will need a Mac or an iOS device to watch the event. So if you are on Windows, Linux, Android, webOS, or any other kind of OS, it won’t work. So have your Apple gear ready The event is set to start at 10AM PDT, 1:00PM Eastern, which is 10.30pm India time.
Apple® will broadcast its September 1 event online using Apple’s industry-leading HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards. Viewing requires either a Mac® running Safari® on Mac OS® X version 10.6 Snow Leopard®, an iPhone® or iPod touch® running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad™. The live broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 1, 2010 at www.apple.com.
Again for the first time, Apple will be using HTTP Live Streaming to stream the event, and you will be able to watch the event live on Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
