It seems a lot threads around with people who are having problems with Installer not being able to install any applications, and get the error “”.

This possible fix is quite easy, and seems to have worked for a lot of people.

• Open up Installer. Hold down your HOME BUTTON for 7 seconds until Installer quits.
• Re-open Installer and try to install your package again.
• IF you still encounter the error, hold down the HOME BUTTON for 7seconds again until Installer quits.
• Restart iPhone this time, & try again.

It didn’t work for me, but tried following and worked

    Open Installer
    Go to sources
    refresh sources
    Install update for Installer
    Try now….!!!

I tried the method described above but with no results. Then I found this in the internet:
How to Fix “Package download failed: can’t find host!” in Installer

        Launch Installer. Go to Sources.
Click EDIT…and then delete the old Ste Packaging URL
        Click EDIT…then ADD…type in (case sensitive!) http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/
        Click OK then press DONE
(Optional) Go to Install…go to the Sources category…then install/update Community Sources. (this will help).

        I quote from:
        http://www.iphoneunlockaustralia.com/iphone-unlocking/fix-installer-package-download-failed-can-t-find.html

        This will work!
        Good luck!

hehe, hold down home button for 7 seconds? Try and try again if that fails? I think it highly more effective to dance widdershins about a slaughtered black rooster at midnight while beseeching Mephistopheles for his intercession. Either method has a good chance of becoming an urban legend.

Hi, I m from India. I accidentally upgraded my 1.1.4 to the new firmware 2.0, and my phone got locked. Though I degraded my phone back and unlocked with ziphone v3. But now the problem is my phone can’t find any cellular network. The manual network selection and the EDGE thingy aren’t there as well.
                              Please suggest something. HELP!!!

To unlock again iphone that was upgraded to 2.0, and when downgraded cannot find provider: I unlocked it with iLiberty then went to http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1563
and followed instrustions - download KiPhone. Basically you need to downgrade baseband with this program.

                                                    iPhone Dev Team's Pwnage Tool

iPhone 3G & 2.0 firmware has been successfully unlocked Update 1: Just to clear up some confusion over what this actually does: yes, it jailbreaks and unlocks older iPhones, and jailbreaks iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touches. We only support the 2.0 firmwares.
Update 2: It looks like there aren’t enough TCP ports on that server, so _BigBoss_ has generously offered to mirror it.
Update 3: If you get Error 1600 from iTunes (or if you see in your log a failure to prepare x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw), try: mkdir “~/Library/iTunes/Device Support” ; if that directory already exists, remove any files in it. Then re-run PwnageTool. . [know more about iPhoneDevTeam... click here]
