iPhone 3G is going to be launched all over India on 22nd August i.e., tomorrow. All those iPhone 3G Features that we have been talking about all these months will now be available to iPhone enthusiasts in India as well. But there are these 3 Prominent Features that we wouldn’t be able to use here in India.

  1. iPhones users in India won’t get support for visual voicemail, one of the iPhone 3G’s standout feature. Airtel might bring this sometime later.
  2. Access to videos and music sold on the iTunes Store will not be available. Only AppStore will be available to Indian users.
  3. 3G is not yet active in India, might be available by this December, provided the Govt opens 3G bidding & approves the 3G players asap. Till then no 3G access on iPhone for Indian users. There would be EDGE which is a little better than dialup internet connection.
I have been using EDGE on iPhone 1st Gen from past few months in India, and must say, its pretty good. Works without any hitch. But since its too slow, I prefer using WIFI when I am in a wifi zone.

Another big big issue iPhone 3G might face in India would surely be the PRICE. It will not be a mass project @ 31k. But surely a Status Symbol. So lets get kicking guys…
[As someone says, if you want to be a part of the APPLE CULT, buy this phone]

There is no contract commitment from either Airtel or Vodafone. But the phone will be locked to the service provider. So if you buy from Airtel, you can only use Airtel SIM, same with Vodafone SIM. And if you are going abroad, you cannot swap SIMs and use any SIM. You will have to stick to Airtel/Vodafone and keep paying international roaming charges. Better to carry 2 phones when on International roaming.

WELCOME TO INDIA IPHONE 3G :) )

No one has confirmed using Turbo SIM on 3G yet. If you find any website where users are using this, please share the link.

I have a US credit card and can use the Itunes easily without an issue. I can recommend to buy prepaid ITUNES store which you can buy at any retail store in US or on ebay. If you have a friends in US they can ship it to you.

It is not worth it to go for 3G iphone at such a exorbitant price which is fleecing all the indians out here by both airtel & vodafone. The price of 8gb in USA is 199usd and 16gb is 299usd.
even if you add the custom duty it should not cross Inr 13000 & Inr 25000 approx. So my friends those having 2G iphone is fantastic and wikth the new 2.0.1 firmware and all the goodies of applestore why shift???? Just for bandwidth speed which again is not yet available in India??
Dont do it. Wait for the prices to fall.
                  Cheers.
