Does your iPhone 3G crash more often after installing more AppStore Apps?

This is happening to quite a few iPhone users with 2.0.x firmware update. There is something in the 2.0.x firmware that is constantly having some issue or the other with new apps that users download from AppStore. And this results in iPhone often.

Infact I keep facing this very issue at times. This is not often but once or twice a week, my iPhone crashes, when I use Super Monkey Ball or Safari more than 2-4 times back-to-back. I have 4 pages of apps on my springboard. In of the iPhone specific forum, it was mentioned that one should not have more than 9 pages of apps. Due to overload of apps on 2.0.x firmware, the watchdog, a monitoring iPhone system tool gets buggy - iPhone has to create a new Application Map whenever you load or unload apps to the system. Should the time to create that map exceed two minutes, the phone enters an endless boot cycle. I am not sure about this though.

In another forum, the max number of app pages mentioned was 5. Beyond this, the problem would again start cropping up. Let me pick up this thread on EverythingiCafe and share with you a few remedies:

  • kenneth - I would completely remove all the apps from the phone and install them through iTunes. I have heard several people having problems with buying apps on the phone. Do all your purchasing and updating on iTunes and then just sync it over.
  • dturner - on max number of pages on springboard for optimum functioning of iPhone - The phone is capable of holding 9 pages of info. with 16 spaces per page.
  • iconone - I just got back from apple and got it fixed. With the phone off plug it in with the home held down. If that don’t work plug it in and then hold the home down.
  • boldblend - do you or did you have the app “diamond twister”??? after several weeks of problems, many many restores, 3 trips to the apple store, and one exchange, it seems I’ve narrowed it down to this app. if you read the reviews, it shows many people had the same problem with it. Since I’ve gotten rid of it, I still have problems updating through the app store, but can ok with iTunes, but before it didn’t matter if it was the app store or iTunes, it would crash if I tried to update or download any app if diamond twister was on my phone.
