I dint know about this trick :) . But this feature is going to definitely helpful for kids. My son (3 yr old) loves to play games on my iPhone. He spends hours at times. And I believe Cell Phone radiation would harm humans in the long run. I dont even prefer talking to people on cell phones for long. I get mild headache when I speak on my phone for over 30-40 minutes. The cell phone radiation is something which should be avoided. And therefore, I make sure that I switch on Airplane mode on my iPhone before giving my iPhone to my son.

Now I have a solution, I can switch on Airplane mode and also switch on WiFi so that I get my emails atleast :) . Here is how to do this:

Simply enable Airplane Mode and then switch on Wi-Fi. The orange airplane icon will stay in the status bar and Wi-Fi will be enabled.
Apple says that the feature is good for those on Wi-Fi enabled planes, but it may come in handy if you’re in an area with no cell reception (such as basement or college building).

[Thanks to iPhoneAlley for this tip]
