Knights Onrush – Review
Reviewed by Kittu Dhanoa
Price: $4.99 – Was on Salet: $0.99. Its still available for $2.99
Genre: Tower Castle Defence , Action
Get it Here – Full Version | Lite Version
Hi Guys. Bought this game yesterday, after checking out the lite version first, and liked what I saw err played. Game’s on sale right now and so I just couldn’t resist the temptation.
My first impression of the Game: Its the ‘Pocket God’ upgraded – Seems as if the pocket gods have finally got a purpose to torture somebody besides the harmless & peaceful pygmies. However, my friend & fellow forum member ‘Vikas’ seems to think its the ‘Stick Wars’ Upgraded – with cute animation & graphics.
Whatever may be the case, its certainly a fresh take on tower/castle defence genre games. Personally, I dont like any of the tower defense games including the hugely popular ‘Field Runners’ – I just never did not see any point in deploying all those guns etc etc and then wait a watch the field runner army walk in and …. wait and see.
So, why did I pick up this game? I got taken in by the cute graphic screen shots. And when I tried out the lite version , I got hooked. Knights Onrush is a fantastic game & ‘chillingo’ has certainly proved just how nicely ‘castle defense’ genre can be done.

The graphics of Knights Onrush are simply great and are the reason why this game is way ahead of the other ugly stick castle defense games. The game supports a whole new medieval look, with knights, goblins, nobles on horses, and primitive machines. They look simply great. Amazing graphics. The game runs at 50+ FPS without a lag even when interrupted by Push notifications.
The Game Play is simple. You have to defend your castle from the enemy. You do so by flicking the enemy away from your castle gates.
So, you ask whats so great about that? Well its the way you kill your enemies. Ok, like I said, you flick away your enemies from the gate. If you drop your enemy from a lesser height, it will only stun them, but yeah if the height is more – you will see them getting smashed. And this is also where the game shows similarity with the ‘pocket god’. You see, you can kill the enemy in a variety of ways. For Example, the very first castle has a pole with a hook – hang your enemy there and you will find a lurking dragon will come and eat it. Then theres the Fire pit – through in a guy and seconds later a burnt carcass will be spitted out of the pit.
The enemies are varied enough and so you will need to employ different tactics to kill them. There are total of 11 enemy types, including Wizards, Catapults, Bombers, Assassins, each with unique abilities. For this, you get to upgrade your castle. By far, the best upgrade system that I have seen so far in a tower/castle defense game. You can upgrade your castle doors, you can buy Defensive structures like Ballista, Boulder Thrower, Fireball, Squasher, Freezer, and Flamethrower, canons etc etc. Again all these are controlled by your finger flick.
Controls are dead simple – ummm Finger your enemy. Pun Intended.
The game offers three gameplay modes:Campaign, Endless, and Madness. Campaign has 12 levels, Each level has different kind and type of castle with different landscapes (Forest, Plains, Desert)and different objective – to survive for a given no of days – some levels are up to 20 “days” long, and very difficult.
The ‘Endless’ mode is simply a never ending siege. And this is the only setting that the other Castle Defense games have.
Madness has the day structure, but a single level.

Like I said before, I never was a fan of tower deference genre. But I hugely enjoyed playing this game. This game is way way ahead of all those other countless defense genre games available in the app store.
For me, another first – “Knights Onrush” somehow proves that a game can be cute & violent at the same time.
My verdict: very cute, very violent beautiful game. Get it. If you are lucky, the sale will be still on. Hit the download button now.
