TwittARound, Augmented Reality Twitter Viewer For iPhone 3GS Goes Live
Posted on 2009 under AppStore, MustHaveApp, Paid Apps, iPhone Apps | No CommentOne of the most talked about augmented reality Twitter viewer TwittARound for the iPhone 3GS is now available on App Store. Basically TwittARound [$0.99, App Store link] shows current Tweets around your location right at the spot they were written via augmented reality using your iPhone 3GS’s compass and camera apps. First demonstrated in July 2009 it was the first augmented reality application for the iPhone showing real time social network data.
TwittARound’s Annotation Engine is 100% based on web technology and standards like HTML 5, Javascript and CSS and thus renders in every Webkit frame (Google Android, QT, …). Due to its scalability it will adapt WebGL (X3DOM) as soon as it will be available on mobile platforms.
Here is how this app works – Simply hold your iPhone upright, point it at the horizon and move it around. Touch the Tweet’s icon to read the message. New Tweets are added automatically.
TwittARound was developed by Michael Zoellner (Dipl. Designer) who has worked for over 7 years on augmented reality solutions at Fraunhofer IGD, the world’s leading institute for applied Visual Computing. His main focus is augmented reality in cultural heritage where he developed projects like iTACITUS (EU, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbIioo09Ou4), Augmented Reality Sightseeing (FhG, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwtmk1ZjhY0) and Future for the Past for the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UODkvUTnAU) and published several scientific papers on the topic (http://i.document.m05.de/?page_id=471).
