iPhoneRumorRocks: The latest rumor making rounds is that the new iPhone (4th Gen) that might be launched by mid 2010 will feature a 5MP camera. If that comes true, I will be the first to pick it up
. Coming to this news; the 5MP CMOS image sensors have been ordered from OmniVision Technologies – which also makes the 3.2MP sensors for the iPhone 3GS. Taiwanese sources are saying that OmniVision expects to ship 40-45 million image sensors for Apple’s iPhone in 2010 – and that obviously means Apple hopes to sell this (impressive) number of iPhones next year.
OmniVision snatched 3.2-megapixel CIS orders for Apple’s iPhone 3GS, beating out Aptina Imaging which supplies the 2-megapixel CIS solution for the iPhone 3G.
Including orders for iPods, the sources estimated OmniVision’s total shipments to Apple at around 65 million units in 2009. OmniVision is set to raise its CIS wafer starts at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) around the beginning of first-quarter 2010, according to the sources.
