Update - 22nd Aug 2008:
I picked up my iPhone 3G this morning at 7.30. Yupppieee…. I felt as excited as I did when I picked up my iPhone 1st Gen last Nov in Mumbai (My friend brought it from the US). This was just great. Even though the price was too much, I just couldn’t resist picking up this awesome gadget from Airtel Store here in Bangalore. I was the first customer at that store which opened at 7.30am just to sell iPhone 3G. Apple formally launched iPhone 3G in India today i.e., 22nd Aug 2008.
I have now put my 3G on my iTunes and syncing all my data, music, sms’s, stock quotes, contacts etc. of my 1st gen version. Its almost done. This is just awesome. I am so damn excited 
Even though I cannot open iTunes being in India, I can access AppStore and download any app and start using. I have synced my Indian Credit Card with iTunes and its working seamlessly.
Let me share few of the initial pictures that I shot from my sony phone this morning. This might not be needed, but as I mentioned earlier, I am just too excited. So just pardon me, if you feel I am going crazy. Once this is done, I will get back to my work ;))
Update - 27th June 2008:
I just bought www.iphoneindiablog.com from godaddy.com. You can now type iphoneindiablog.com and get to this blog of mine. But I don’t intend to move all these pages to the new domain anytime soon. Update - 23rd June 2008:
Well, I sold my 1st gen iPhone two weeks back for Rs.16,000 ($400) on bangalore.craigslist.org. Definitely happy with this deal… Waiting for 3G iPhone desperately. Missing my iPhone like mad. Infact my son, Tanish (2.5yrs) is missing my iPhone as well; he used to spend around 1-2 hrs every evening, playing two of his favorite games - Towers of Hanoi & Block Puzzle (as well as Sketches)
Anyways, now that we all are waiting for 11th July, lets hope that Zibri/Pawnage unlocks 3G iPhone within hours.
3G iPhone with GPS and better battery life should definitely ROCK. 3G should happen by end of this year in India, hopefully! See you guys soon…

Hi, I have been using this awesome invention called iPhone in Bangalore, India from November 2007 and have gone nutzzz over this.
Nuts to an extent that I have started my own blog on iPhone. I will be covering various developments happening around Apple iPhone. Will cover everything and anything which is even remotely connected to the iPhone. But will put more emphasis on iPhone news and buzz from an Indian perspective.
BTW, I need to apologize for all those misspelled words that you would invariably find in my blog. Its not that my English is bad (it’s not that good either :-)), but just that I like to type real quick and am too lazy to go back and do a spell check before posting the blog. And at the same time, I would like to keep posting every iPhone news that breaks out as soon as possible.

Rizzy, I am not sure if the price is going to come down in the near future. The price hasnt come down in any country where iPhone was launched on 11th July. But if we have another version by this year end, this 3G version will surely go down on price.

Hey Rizzy, there is no 4GB version of 3G available anywhere in the world. I just checked this kolkata edition, this epaper is misquoting completely.
YOu cannot but iPhone in the US and use it in any other country. If you use it, international roaming will be application.
Yes, you can unlock your iPhone and then use it in India. But the unlocking done by iPhone Dev Team’s Pwnage Tool not yet good to go. more on this check - http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

Het Rizzy, I will surely let you know once the EMI plans come up. I checked with vodafone last evening regarding the iPhone 3G price cut. They denied it and said there is no price cut. Checked with Airtel as well, nothing from there either.

Hii…..i was just curious 2 know….on how d iphone is made operator locked…how r d operators able to do that ??…..especially in india…where both vodafone and airtel hav rights 2 sell….how is it that if u buy from airtel…u would’nt b able to use vodafone sim and vice-versa ??!!
There is some programming changes Apple does before shipping those iPhones to Airtel or Vodafone. I checked the iPhone box when I purchased iPhone3G. There is MRP, customer care and support email is also india phone numbers and india specific email address. So these phones are custom modified to be used in India.
I was just wondering about the warrenty policy and the battery replacement program? Do u guys have any clue abt these?
There is 1year warrenty on iPhone 3G Rithesh. Battery is covered as well, I guess. But I am not sure.

Thanks Gautam… You can purchase apps from AppStore using any Indian Credit Card. It should be either VISA or MasterCard. WIFI on iPhone is really good. I use WIFI most of the time since my office and home both are wifi enabled. EDGE is not that good. I use EDGE when I am on move.
No you cannot save PowerPoint presentations. You can only view when you receive them in mail.

Yes you can. you will need a aux out pin in your car stereo. If you have that, you can buy a iphone car connector and you are good to go.

Hey Rizzy… well experience is the same.. GREAT to be back to Apple. interface is as good as 1st gen. Battery gets dried up pretty quickly. But I dont complain, since I use safari and apps the most.
Best thing - interface, mail, gps, photos, ipod, n browsing
Bad things - battery, no copy-paste and no sms forwarding.

am already using old iphone last 8 months, now i want to buy official one
my queries are
1) i am selling my old iphone to my friend he doesnt want me to delete applications and songs
is there any way i can delete my contacts only
2) to transfer my data do i need to simply connect my iphone to my laptop and all of my last synchronised contacts and songs will be transferred
3) I am desprate to buy it today and i found white iphone also there in markt but all packed cant see in real, what do you say? which one is best

Hey Ajay… let me answer your questions.
1. yes you can delete your contacts. Go to setting > general > reset > and hit erase all content and settings.
2. you are right. the new iPhone 3G will sync all your content, music, notes etc. It might take 2-3hrs the first time you do it. If it doesnt happen the first time, try 3-5times.
3. If you like white go for it. More over you can flaunt it more, since white is not available in 8gig version. But other than the space, everything else is the same.

is there any way i can DELETE ONLY CONTACTS?
You can manually go to each contact and hit EDIT on the top right and the scroll down and hit DELETE. This might be pretty time consuming though.

here is the solution
just synchronize your contacts on windows or mac. now delete ur contacts from the computer and sync again to remove all the contacts from iphone.
that way i will loose my contacts on new iphone

Hey Ajay.. yes will lose your contacts. You should have manually deleted all your contacts in your iPhone 1st gen and given it your friend. Now that you have bought iPhone 3G, you should just go for a sync between your iphone 3G and iTunes. iTunes will automatically backup all your iPhone 1st gen files along with contacts.
Coming to your next question. You might have added your credit card details without changing the country to India. Because of this you credit card would have got hooked on to a US iTunes settings and when you log into your iTunes from India, it wouldnt verify your country.
Send a mail to Apple asking to check on this and reset the settings to India.
Finally I bought white iphone its simply awsome, i vote for it, its worth it

Hey Rizzy… N-96 is in many ways better than iPhone. If you are looking for 20-30 unique features which you might not use but would love have, N-96 is the way to go. But if you are a avid users of internet and continuously want to check few websites regularly on your laptop/desktop and want a complete email support on a phone, go for iPhone. Added to this you will get the best music player/manager in the world called iPod. I know n-96 has all this and expandable memory which can go to 1gb. But I would recommend you to go for iPhone 3G, since I have used N-95 for sometime and find N95 as just another mobile phone with tonns of features. I found the WOW factor only in iPhone 1st gen and now in iPhone 3G.

am into serious issue of handling calls while driving, my car has aux in through which i listen to my songs,and when any call came it automatically switch over to my call , i really like this feature, but i can hear only in my car speakers, to speak i have to put my iphone on speaker mode, now the voice comes through iphone only and its real slow,
Is there any unit avialble from whih i can attend voice calls?
I found a system from harman kardon, but its doesnt accept voice calls,,
do you have any suggestions for me

Hey, I have a simple solutions for this. But a bluetooth headset and activate bluetooth when you are driving. As soon as the call comes, the music will go mute and your bluetooth headset will get activated.
Any bluetooth headset would work with this iPhone.

well, yes your right, i bought apple bluetooth only last month from germany, its a peice of junk,
here my plan is to listen from my car speakers and speak n some kinda mic, will make my job comfortable

Hey Gautam, thanks for sharing this link. It might happen that BSNL opens up 3G in India by then. If this happens it would be just great or all iPhone 3G user in India. Hopefully Airtel and Vodafone get the 3G licenses too.

So i’ve finally bought the Iphone and am absolutely loving it.. I cant imagine how its being compared to a blackberry when clearly its a class apart…
I’m facing a funny situation though.. The time on my IPhone automatically changes. I’ve changed the date and time settings from GMT to Bombay, India and it stays for a while and then automatically changes back to the GMT timezone… I’ve even tried leaving it on GMT and it still keeps changing..
Is anyone else facing this problem? And whats the solution?? Please tell me its not a glitch with my handset!
Congrats Gautam. This is strange, I havent heard people facing this problem. Did you sync your iPhone to your computer iTunes at least on time?
If not sync it once and keep the date and time to “Set automatically”

Hey Raj… 1. Make few tests before buying. Use the iPhone for few hours and make sure that the battery is not draining real fast.
2. Make sure that Edge/WiFi works well.
3. Make sure that you can download apps from Cedia or Installer.app with ease.
4. And also check the iphone for any visible damage.

Well, you could then take the risk of buying that iPhone. If you are really unlucky, you might end up buying a fake/worthless one.

You can sync your iPhone with iTunes 8, but dont upgrade your iPhone.

Sorry for replying in late.
You should change your preferences in iTunes8 so that it doesnt upgrade your iPhone automatically.
To do this:
Go to > iTunes > Edit > General. Set ‘Check for updates automatically’ checkbox off.
You will get messages to update your iPhone. Never say yes.
If you haven’t synced your iPhone with this computer earlier, yes, all your contacts would be deleted. But if you have synced on the same computer earlier, even though it was previous version of iTunes, then the contacts will not get erased.

I am visiting US and bought 3g Iphone with 2.2.1 / 2.30.1 baseband. I searched on net and found as of now yellosnl0w does not have support for this band.
There are other solution to unlock iphone using Turbo sim.
Do you think they would work in India so that I can purchase from here ?

Hey JS.. yes you can buy a turboSIM on ebay or in the US and use it with 2.2.1 firmware. BUt you wont be able to upgrade your iPhone in the future.
if you upgrade you will lose your iPhone.
