Play console-quality gaming on the iPad – Thanks to OnLive, a cloud-based videogaming company

This cloud-based videogame streaming company, OnLive was covered by TechCrunch a while back. OnLive lets you play console-quality games on tablets. TechCrunch goes on to say that:

For the first time, you can play real games (as in titles previously only available on full-fledged gaming consoles) on a relatively low power device such as a tablet or smartphone. Thanks to Onlive’s just-launched mobile app, DiRT 3, Assasin’s Creed Revelations, L.A. Noire and many more titles are now playable on most recent Android devices including the Kindle Fire, iPad and soon, the iPhone

The OnLive service allows streaming of console quality games like Assassins Creed, L.A. Noire, and other titles typically reserved for consoles like the PS3, directly from the company’s servers. The service has received mixed reviews, mostly due to inconsistencies in performance. The same appears to be true for the mobile version, with an early hands-on by TechCrunch highlighting the same performance issues common on PCs. These are “console-class” games, but not always a console quality experience. It’s playable, but really laggy.

This service will come with more than 25 titles that support touchscreen-based controls including L.A. Noire from Rockstar, with an additional 150 games to play when paired with their universal wireless controller which sells for $49.99.

iOS 5 to release by Oct. 10 – Twitter

AppleInsider has shared some important info about iOS 5 release. Twitter has scheduled a pair of “Developer Teatimes” for Oct. 10 and Oct. 12 with a “heavy focus” on the service’s tight integration with iOS 5, possibly providing further evidence that the forthcoming update to Apple’s mobile operating system will arrive in two weeks.

Twitter announced the teatimes, the first to be held outside of San Francisco by the company, on Friday. The developer events will take place in London on Oct. 10 and New York City on Oct. 12, with space limited to just 150 attendees per city, as noted by Matthew Panzarino of The Next Web.

“There’s a lot going on in the ecosystem and we’d like to take this chance to share the highlights with you – including the latest developments with the platform, areas of opportunity that we’re seeing, and a heavy focus on the iOS 5 Twitter integration for developers,” said Twitter’s Jason Costa.

According to one recent report, the Cupertino, Calif., company will hold a media event on Tuesday, Oct. 4 to take the wraps off the much-anticipated iPhone 5. Apple announced in June that it had partnered up with Twitter to add deep integration of the social networking service to iOS 5. Rumors of the close partnership had surfaced prior to the unveiling.

Apple release ‘iTunes Match’ beta to developers

Yesterday Apple sent out emailers to developers telling them that Apple’s music locker service, iTunes Match, is now in beta:

iTunes Match stores your complete music library in iCloud, allowing you to enjoy your collection anywhere, anytime, on any iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or computer. iTunes Match beta is currently available to developers in the United States. Beta subscribers will receive iTunes Match service during the beta period plus an additional 3 months for free with their 12 month paid subscription.

To get started with iTunes Match, download the current version of iOS 5 beta and iTunes 10.5 beta 6.1 with iTunes Match. Once installed, choose Turn On iTunes Match from the Store menu, and click “Subscribe for $24.99.”

Please note that you must maintain a local backup of your iTunes library as well as any music you add to iCloud. Apple will periodically reset your iCloud library during the beta and it is critical that you backup your music regularly. Some features and optimizations of iTunes Match will not be available during the beta.

Interesting feature that would change the way we using iPhone/iPad for ever, I feel. Lets wait and watch. Another month to go.

Apple takes iCloud live – Looks so damn PRETTY!!!

Over the weekend Apple launched iCloud.com. Beta developers can now do their testing with their apps. Its open for non developers well. I logged in just a while back. It looks so damn pretty guys. Last week Apple took live iWork beta with iCloud support, for developers, for testing as well. Also, The price for for additional storage: 10GB extra will cost $20 a year, 20GB will cost $40 and 50GB (total 55GB) will cost $100 a year. You get 5GB of storage for free, but your music library, apps, video content and photo stream do not count against that 5GB.

9to5Mac put some more light on this new development:

The website is in beta and features all new web apps for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and more. In addition, it appears that iCloud.com will offer a portal for users to view their iWork documents that are stored in the cloud via iCloud. On top of all of this Find my iPhone is an integrated web application. As you will see, the interface for the website is very iPad and iOS-like. We also have a video walkthrough after the break.

Check out few screenshots that I took. Just love the look and feel:

Apple posts iCloud FAQ and Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Find my iPhone web apps

Apple has added another new page that answers FAQs about the transition from MobileMe to Apples new iCloud service, which should be going live by this September. The webpage explains which services are staying with iCloud and which are going.

Few new additional services include:

  • iTunes in the Cloud
  • Photo Stream
  • Documents in the Cloud
  • Automatic downloads and purchase history for apps and books
  • Backup and restore

The site also says that users will be able to migrate their current .Mac or MobileMe username to the iCloud service. A big question as of late has been over whether or not iCloud will include functionality in the browser; Apple answers:

Yes. Web access to iCloud Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Find My iPhone will be available at icloud.com this fall.

9to5Mac goes on to say that current MobileMe services such as iDisk, Web Gallery, Mac-based sync services, and iWeb published websites will still be supported, for current MobileMe and .Mac (where applicable) users, until June 30, 2012. And new iCloud users, which can sign up for a free Me.com account as a part of iCloud, will not be able to access those features.
