If you have got stuck with any one of these iTunes error codes while restoring your iPhone with a custom iOS 4.2.1 firmware file, 1604, 1603, 1602, 1601, 1600, there is no reason to worry. These error codes occurs when you using Sn0wbreeze 2.2 for Windows or PwnageTool 4.2 for Mac. The good news is you can easily bypass these errors. iH8sn0w, developer of Sn0wbreeze has released a new version of iREB tool, which is compatible with iOS 4.2.1. Redmond Pie has shared the steps to fix any of these error code:
iREB is a tool that will put your device into a pwned state so that you can upload custom firmware to it. iREB 4.0.x/4.1/4.2.1 [r3] supports the following devices:
- iPhone 2G/3G/3G[S]/4
- iPod Touch 1G/2G/3G/4
- iPad
- Apple TV 2
Here’s how to use it:
Step 1: Start iTunes 10.1.2 and put your iOS device into DFU mode.
iPhone/iPad/iPod touch:
- Connect your iOS device with your Computer.
- Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds.
- You device should now be in DFU mode.
Apple TV 2G:
- Connect your Apple TV with your Computer via microUSB.
- Now reboot your Apple TV by holding down Menu + Down buttons together for around 6 seconds.
- After reboot, immediately hold Menu + Play until you see the message in iTunes saying that Apple TV in recovery mode is detected.
Step 2: Now close iTunes and Start iREB RC3 on Windows.

Step 3: Simply select your device and wait for a few seconds until you get white or a red screen on your iOS device.
Step 4: Now start iTunes again and select your iOS device from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update”) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button. Select the required custom .ipsw file and restore it.
That’s it! iTunes should now be able to restore your iOS device to the latest iOS 4.2.1 custom firmware without any problems. Hopefully you wont get any 16xx errors during restore this time around!

If you find yourself stuck with iOS after upgrading from 3.1.3 firmware, you could go with this lifehacker method of downgrading from iOS 4.0 back to 3.1.3 firmware. Go ahead and follow the steps mentioned below. Be sure to read every point mentioned below very carefully.
Note: The process should work nearly the same on Windows and OS X, so unless we say otherwise, you can follow the same steps on each. The main difference between Windows and OS X is RecBoot, so Windows users, make sure you pay close attention to the RecBoot process before diving in.
Step 1: Find or Download iOS 3.1.3 and RecBoot
The first thing you need to do is get a copy of the iPhone OS 3.1.3 image. There’s a good chance you’ve already got a backed up copy of the 3.1.3 release on your system, so let’s check there first. On OS X, check in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates. On Windows, your iPhone OS updates should be stored in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates (or to get there more quickly, type Win+R and paste%appdata%\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates). If you see a file inside this folder corresponding to iPhone1,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw oriPhone1,2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw, those are likely the restore images you need.
If you don’t see anything that resembles the 3.1.3 OS or you just want to download a fresh version for good measure, web site iClarified has maintained a list of iPhone firmware files. Just find 3.1.3 for your phone (the 3G version points here and it’s what I used successfully) and download the 228MB file.
Next, download RecBoot from here (available for Windows and Mac). This handy little utility plays an important role in finishing off the downgrade.

Are you experiencing Error 13019 while syncing your iPhone/iPod to iTunes too? I found this Apple discussion thread that helped me. Best of luck.

Let me share a few quick tips that will surely help you:
- Un-sync your music/videos or whatever isn’t going onto your iPhone/iPod by plugging in your device and unchecking the sync box within each multimedia tab then click apply. Let the device sync then once completed reconnect your device check all your sync tabs that you want and sync again. This should resolve the problems and sync your files. It should only be your music and videos and some podcast that don’t sync at the start but this description should fix the error (13019).
- Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac, using the cable that came with it. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286 provides other general USB troubleshooting tips that could resolve the issue.
- Unsyncing the music should fix the problem for sure. You just click on the ‘music’ tab from your itunes/iphone homepage. Then unclick the box and click apply in the lower right corner. Then, after that sync is complete, recheck the box, click apply, and enjoy.
- Uncheck the box next to Music, Videos, Voice Memo and sync it. And then re-sync the iphone.
- This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1692 will walk you through creating another user account, under the Attempt to sync content in a new Windows user section.

You might have seen this error -69 when you try to sync files from any iPhone/iPod in iTunes – “Attempting to copy to the disk failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)”. I found the solution for this issue at the Apple support section:
This error occurs when iTunes tries to send files to your iPod, but a file (or files) is unusable (something is wrong with it). To figure out which file (or files) is causing the error, update to the latest version of iTunes and then do this:
- Control-click (Mac) or right-click (Windows) on your iPod icon in the iTunes Source pane, then choose Sync Songs from the shortcut menu.
- Watch the display at the top of the iTunes window while your iPod is being updated. The name of the problematic file should appear in the display right before the error appears. Then remove the bad file from the list of songs to be synced to your iPod.
- Select the iPod in the iTunes Source pane.
- Click the Summary tab.
- Select the “Sync only checked songs and videos” checkbox (please note that this checkbox is only available for an iPod configured to update automatically).
- Select the appropriate item under Library in the sidebar and find the bad file in the list. (For example, if the file in question was a song you would select Music in the iTunes Source pane. If it were a video you would select Movies or TV Shows in the sidebar.)
- Deselect the checkbox next to the file name.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 to update your iPod. If you have multiple problematic files in your iTunes library, you may need to repeat the other steps to remove them too.
To prevent future issues, you should delete the unusable files from your iTunes library, then restore them from a backup or reimport them from a CD.
If you are getting Error 21 or Error 1600 while downgrading your iPhone, then the problem is that you are ending up in m Recovery Mode and not in a DFU mode. Make sure that you follow the instructions available at theBigBoss to get into DFU mode:
You got to do a normal restore to previous firmware via iTunes and then put your iPhone into DFU mode, and only then you need to follow the instructions to downgrade your iPhone from OS 3.1 or 3.0.
Over to BigBoss:
DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode is not the same as restore mode. DFU mode bypasses the current OS installed and allows you to upgrade or downgrade your OS.

Recovery mode has a picture that says connect to iTunes. In DFU mode, the iPhone screen backlight is not even on and the display is blank. If you have anything on your display you are not in DFU mode.
