Facebook announced a host of new features and updates for their iPhone client app. Here is the official press release from Facebook - I can’t predict an exact date when I will submit to Apple, but I can say that I am about 98% done.
New Features:

15. Messages you are typing will be restored if you quit or are interrupted by a phone call
But you wont see Push Notifications as yet -The one feature everyone is asking for, Push Notifications, is in development but it won’t make it into 3.0. You can expect it in a 3.1 update later this summer.
Skype [Free, App Store] for iPhone has been updated to V1.1 and now has brings Skype voicemail and SMS text messaging feature. You need to subscribe to Skype for the voicemail feature.

Innovative concept - Dunkin’ Run is an interactive iPhone app that will enable customers to solicit and place Dunkin’ Donuts group orders in just a few taps. Dunkin’ Donuts’ Brand Marketing Officer Frances Allen says, “Dunkin’ Run brings customers a social online group ordering experience and tools”. 1. INVITE: Launch the app, and log in to start a Run. Now, you’re “the runner”. Invite friends by email address or mobile phone number. You must be registered before you can start a Run.
2. ORDER: Select your order from the menu. We’ll contact your friends to do the same.
3. RUN: Go get the goods. We’ll compile all orders for you, and you can print it out or display it on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
4. ENJOY! Bring the goodies back, and enjoy the deliciousness, along with the hero worship from your friends.

AT&T has launched “AT&T Navigator: monthly fee on AT&T bill” [Free, App Store link] iPhone app which is a turn-by-turn GPS navigation software for iPhone users in the US. But be careful, by buying this app, you might be entering into a deal with AT&T where $10 is added to your monthly mobile bill for ever. The initial cost is, of course, free. However, AT&T adds $10 to your monthly phone bill until you somehow get them to stop billing you.
These turn-by-turn navigation apps are turning out to be big ripoffs. AT&T app will likely cost you $120/year unless you are somehow able to wade through AT&T’s customer service system to disable the product. Anyways here is what AT&T had to say about this app:

Awesome, you can now get all your IM messages even if your iPhoneAIM is not active. Thanks to Push Notification, you can get instant AIM messages just like any other message ping on iPhone. And the best thing is that Push works with both the free [App Store link] and paid version [App Store link] of the app. The $2.99 paid version removes all advertising. Instant messaging apps are perhaps the perfect use for Push Notification, which allows you to use such services without requiring that they be open at all time. In our test of the pre-release beta version of the AIM app with Push, the messages were sent almost instantaneously. In testing it out right now, it looks to be just as fast.
But Push doesn’t resolve the lack of iPhone background support for all apps. We sitll need background apps feature, Apple. Are you Listening???
This cool app called ‘Hey Where Are You’ can locate your friends instantaneously with the help of this new feature in iPhone OS 3.0 called Push Notification. Basically this app is a location service that lets you keep track of where friends, family and colleagues are. You can send alerts with your current location to your followers, or send “Hey, Where Are You?” alerts requesting their location. Developed byNiftybrick and discovered by Sandeep Asrani, a dedicated member of this blog, the push notification feature in this app pops instant messages on iPhone informing you where your friends are.

HeyWAY uses Apple’s brand new Push Notification Service, your alerts are delivered even when the application is not running. HeyWAY logs location updates received from people you are following so you can refer back to each person’s past whereabouts. All locations are displayed on embedded maps, which are fully navigable using familiar panning and zooming controls.
Apple usually does this everytime it releases new gadgets. With iPhone 3GS launch, Apple hasnt added Voice Control and Video Recording to OS 3.0 which could have been done easily. But this is not new, Apple is popular for this kind of marketing tricks. Anyways, let me quickly talk about this app called Vlingo [Free, App Store link]. Vlingo was launched December 08, and did almost everything that Voice Control feature can do in iPhone 3GS, except for iPod controls.
Vlingo has come a long way - Using innovative speech recognition technology, Vlingo lets iPhone users dial their contacts, search the Web, look up numbers and maps for local listings, and send status updates for Facebook and Twitter. The best thing about this app is that its available for free. Give it a try.
