Looks like Apple might update iPhone 4 with a new antenna by as early as October this year. In fact I called up Apple India Customer Care yesterday to check by when iPhone 4 would be launched here. There wasn’t any official confirmation, but looked the customer care rep was positive about early October release. If this happens, we should get the updated iPhone 4 too. And it would through Airtel and Vodafone this time as well. If early October launch is confirmed, the price would most probably hover between Rs.36,000-37,000 for a 16GB and Rs.41,000-42,000 for 32GB version.
Anyways coming back to this latest rumor, Macrumors has shared this bit of information that a Mexican tech news site Canal MX suggests a hardware fix for the iPhone 4’s well-known shortcoming could arrive by the end of September.
CanalMX reports [Google translation] on comments from an executive at Mexican carrier Telcel claiming that Apple is set to release a revised version of the iPhone 4 by the end of September to address the highly-publicized antenna issue. Telcel began offering the iPhone 4 in Mexico last Friday as part of a quiet expansion that saw the device also come to the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia.

The veracity of Quatorze’s claim is unknown, as it is unclear whether a carrier executive at his level would even be privy to such information, and it is possible that he may simply be mistaken in his understanding of Apple’s September 30th expiration date for the free case program. At Apple’s iPhone 4 press conference last month, Steve Jobs noted that the free case program was launched with an initial expiration date of September 30th to provide the company with time to continue its investigation of the antenna issue and perhaps come up with a better solution for future customers.
We will have to anyways wait till Sept 30th to know if iPhone 4 would have an updated antenna or not. Lets see what happens.

AppleInsider has this crazy kind of news that some day Cook might take over Steve Jobs’ role as the company’s chief executive and Apple has already started preparing for that moment. Jeff Williams, who’s been at Apple for over a decade, has just been promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations and tasked with making sure Apple products meet “the highest quality standards”.
It’s hard not to imagine this as anything other than a response to “antennagate” and other iPhone 4 problems, though there’s another theory afloat:
It’s believed Apple is grooming Williams to take on Cook’s role as chief operation officer in the event that Cook takes over Steve Jobs’ role as the company’s chief executive. Cook has been profiled as the most likely successor to Jobs when Apple’s iconic chief chooses to step down.
Macrumors had some more coverage – Williams has been granted a series of restricted stock grants over the past four years totaling 75,000 shares, although none of those grants have yet become fully vested. All told, Williams’ holdings in Apple stock and options are worth over $41 million in today’s prices, although not all of those options and stock grants have yet been vested or exercised.
According to Williams’ bio on Apple’s site, he joined Apple in 1998 as the company’s head of worldwide procurement and in 2004 was promoted to the position of Vice President for Operations. Since the launch of the iPhone in 2007, Williams has led worldwide operations for both the iPhone and iPod. Prior to his arrival at Apple, Williams spent 13 years at IBM in a number of capacities.

Engadget discovered this strange gadget sometime back and connected the dots somehow – This new Magic Trackpad/Magic Slate has long been rumored to be a large, flat surface with iPhone/iPad-like capacitive multitouch input to the Mac. Possibly supporting the full range of gestures that the iPhone and iPad currently support. Apple generally keeps all of their device filings with the FCC locked down and with this filing being released there is great possibility we may see this new device hit the stores later this week.
The FCC test report also talks about the device as a “Bluetooth Trackpad”.
The ultra-rough label location diagram is definitely the right shape for the accessory, and what’s interesting is that the test report was completed way back in October of 2009. Has Apple seriously been sitting on this thing for the better part of a year? Keep a close eye on the Apple Store for this one, folks.

AppleInsider has something exciting to report - Apple is drumming up excitement amongst its retail employees, hinting this week that something revolutionary will soon be introduced within its international chain of brick-and-mortar shops.
The news was shared with employees via an internal news bulletin, according to people familiar with the matter. However, details were scarce outside of text that teased the unknown product or service would be innovative enough to make a ‘big’ impact.
According to those same people, the internal article text was supplemented by a collection of video clips that featured Apple Retail employees reciting phrases such as “It’s coming!,” and “It’s going to be big!”

Yes, this might happen – Apple might hold two Developer Conferences every year, one for iOS and the other for Mac. During WWDC 2010, Steve Jobs focused only on the iPhone and iPad, dint even mention Apple Design Awards for Mac software. Mac usually is a big part of WWDC every year. What does this mean for the Mac development community?
Hardmac is reporting that Apple is toying with the idea of offering two separate WWDC events, with one focused on iOS and the other on OS X.
One of our most reliable sources at Apple told us that the company could decide to organize two different WWDC every year, one dedicated to the iOS, iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc… and the other one to Mac OS X and the Mac. If this is currently only a project, there is plenty of reasons for making it happen, it would be a strong sign of support from Apple towards Mac users, especially when Mac and Mac OS X market shares keep increasing.
As Mac users continues to rise, it would be foolish for Apple to jump ship, so to speak, as the Mac continues to pick up momentum and infiltrate the mainstream. Infact I picked up my first MBP just yesterday

iPhone HD is going to be launched just over a week from now, and this Czech website SuperiPhone.cz has revealed that the next iPhone will sport a high resolution screen using conventional IPS LCD technology similar to iPad. AppleInsider reported this news:
The Czech site reported on a screen component it says will be used on the new iPhone, detailing its specifications under a microscope. It compared the high resolution new iPhone panel and its “amazing” 320 pixel per inch display against the existing HTC HD2 (217 ppi), the Verizon/Motorola Droid (265 ppi) and Google’s Nexus One (252 pip).

This tech is much more advance than Google’s Nexus Amoled screen. AppleInsider goes on to say that, unlike the AMOLED panel used by Google’s Nexus One, the iPhone’s new screen will feature the same regular, uniform grid of red, green and blue display elements. The Nexus One’s screen uses a “PenTile” grid, reportedly to reduce costs, which packs smaller green pixel components between red and blue elements. This irregular arrangement of subpixel elements results in the Nexus One providing a less accurate display of lines on the screen.

Interesting rumor coming from TechCrunch this time, that says Apple is surely working with Microsoft to bring iPhone’s search feature to support Bing too. Apple’s next revision of the iPhone OS won’t drop Google for Bing entirely, but will expand the number of search options iPhone users see, and apparently make those options more visible.
Microsoft Bing will replace Google in the next version of the iPhone operating system to be released in June, we’ve heard from mulitple sources, including a high level source who claims to have been briefed on the matter. We’re not calling this more than a rumor yet, but one thing is sure – our sources close to Google in particular are speaking freely about this as fact. In January Business Week reported that Microsoft and Apple were in talks over an iPhone search deal, and the deal certainly would be brilliant for Microsoft.
Another rumor goes on to say that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer would attend the WWDC event on June 7 to announce Video Studio development for the iPhone, although they were quickly retracted. Our sources on this are independent of that story

This insider news was offered by DigiTimes and covered by Macrumors yesterday. In an interesting Q&A with one of Apples research analysts, DigiTimes shared few undisclosed details about the development of the iPhone 4G which is expected to be introduced on 7th June at WWDC. Over to Macrumors:
One of the most interesting tidbits included in the report is a claim that Apple had a second next-generation iPhone under development that more closely resembles the iPhone 3GS, a phone which Apple has been keeping in reserve in case unforeseen difficulties with the more significantly redesigned versions seen floating around in prototypes forced Apple to fall back to manufacturing processes with which it is already familiar.
The leaked iPhone 4G had a tag that said “N90,” which is the internal development codename for the iPhone 4G, and very few people outside the company knew about it prior to the leak.
On a side note, Apple initiated the iPhone 4G project at the end of 2008. According to our sources, Apple actually has another product codenamed N91 for the project, which offers less change from previous iPhones compared with the N90. It’s a parallel product to back up the N90 in case there are major delays due to significant modifications in casing, display resolution, digital camera support and so forth.
In fact, it seems possible that there may even have been a third version of the next-generation iPhone floating around Apple’s labs, as details found in the iPhone SDK 3.2 back in February revealed a device, presumed to be an iPhone, carrying an “N89″ internal model number. The iPhone 3GS carries internal model number “N88″.

Engadget dug out this Chinese online seller who is selling some white iPhone face plate, something not seen on iPhones thus far.
This particular Chinese online seller not only claims to have parts for the next-gen iPhone, but also one white face plate — something not seen on iPhones thus far. While we drool over the thought of an all white Apple handheld, there are still questions to be answered here: the seller wasn’t able to explain what that silver bit above the speaker is, nor have we seen white back plates to match this.
