Gizmodo brings some great news to US smartphone users – Next month, nine Verizon smartphones with accompanying 3G plans will be able to make unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls, as well as call out to regular phones internationally at a reduced rate.
But few hours later Gizmodo posted an update stating this – It appears the service is pretty gimped as you can’t call Skype out to regular lines domestically in order to save minutes.

During a meeting with the Wall Street Journal, Steve Jobs tried to convince the paper to ditch Adobe Flash support for the iPad. Jobs suggested to WSJ that they should ditch Flash, because it a “CPU hog” and would shorten iPad’s battery life from 10 hours to just 1.5, WOW. And flash was also full of “security holes” and is a dying technology. Valleywag reports:
Jobs was brazen in his dismissal of Flash, people familiar with the meeting tell us. He repeated what he said at an Apple Town Hall recently, that Flash crashes Macs and is buggy. But he also called Flash a “CPU hog,” a source of “security holes” and, in perhaps the most grievous insult an famous innovator can utter, a dying technology. Jobs said of Flash, “We don’t spend a lot of energy on old technology.” He then compared Flash to other obsolete systems Apple got people to ditch….
… like the floppy drive, famously absent in iMac,
…. old data ports, including even Apple’s own FireWire 400, gone from iPods and now all Macbooks,
….LCD screens, now entirely replaced in Apple’s lineup by LEDs (except for 30-inch Cinema Displays),
…and even the CD, with Jobs apparently crediting Apple’s iPod, iTunes Store, CD-ripping software and “Rip, Mix, Burn” campaign with doing in the old music medium (sort of: though CD sales are in free fall, around 300 million were sold last year in the U.S. alone, 80 percent of all albums).
Looks like its getting out of control. Lets wait for Adobe’s official response to these allegations.

iPad will surely have front facing camera in the near future. AppleInsider shared a new Apple patent that was published by the US Patent and Trademark Office yesterday – A newly revealed Apple patent application shows plans for superior picture and video recording performance on portable devices, and also depicts a handheld device with a forward facing camera.
The application revealed this week, entitled “Apparatus and Method for Compensating for Variations in Digital Cameras,” notes that the current manufacturing process for digital video cameras is inconsistent and often results in flaws. Camera modules are manufactured separately as independent units before they are incorporated into a larger device, such as an iPhone or iPod.

Apple’s iPhone Safari’s default search engine will continue to be Google for a long time to come. Silicon Alley Insider reported on information from a source claiming that Apple arent looking at developing their own search engine at all and Apple’s current deal with Google to provide default search functionality for the iPhone is well worth over $100 million year on year.
Our source tells us “there’s too many options” for search on the market, so there’s no reason for Apple to build its own search engine.
Another reason Apple might not want to build its own search engine: It’s getting over $100 million a year from Google in its revenue share deal, according to our source.
For Apple, that’s not a lot of money. But, it’s enough that it doesn’t make sense for Apple to put considerable resources towards building its own Internet search engine. And, if Apple wanted more money or options, there’s Microsoft — with Bing and a big checkbook.

Could 4th Gen iPhones be taller than the current ones? Might come true if we go by this rumor coming from iPhone repair site iResQ. The folks over at iResQ have posted some photos that reportedly show parts of the new iPhone.
![iPhone-4g-shell iPhone 4g shell 480x373 RUMOR: iPhone 4G Could Be Taller Than iPhones 3G/3GS [Leaked Photos]](http://iphoneindia.gyanin.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/iPhone-4g-shell-480x373.jpg)
- It looks like the iPhone 4G is about 1/4 inch taller than the previous iPhones (which are all 115mm tall).
- Another difference with the new iPhone is that it has a small reflective surface above the speaker (this might be just a proximity sensor).
- And “the LCD appears to be factory glued to the digitizer,” this making the iPhone 4G more similar to the first-gen iPhone than to the 3G and 3GS models.

Over to MacRumors - Claimed leaks of future iPhone parts from Asian suppliers have been relatively common in the past, although such claims should generally be taken with a grain of salt, as evidenced by a claimed iPhone bezel leaked last May that actually turned out to be a part from the Creative Zii Egg.

Another hidden feature in iPhone 3.2 SDK has been discovered by Engadget. Engadget has dug up an indicator that iPhone 4G will also get 720p video playback and possibly capture. The MediaValidator preferences list file for the now allows videos as wide as 1280 pixels and a total 921,000 pixel count, or enough to match the 1280×720 resolution of 720p. It similarly recognizes the AVC 3.1 codec profile necessary to allow 720p footage.
We’ve been tipped off that a gander at the MediaValidator.plist file reveals a few telling stats: the maximum video width is up from 768 pixels to 1280, and the maximum number of pixels per frame is up to 921,600, which just happens to work out to 1280 x 720. The device’s AVC profile has been bumped from 3.0 to 3.1, too, which adds in support for 720p — so yeah, all the signs are there, and industry trends pretty much require that we expect it at this point.

Looks like Engadget has caught an awesome picture by mistake. Just when Steve Jobs was introducing iPad to the world, Engadget scored a picture of the 4th Gen iPhone. That what AppleInsider say. Check this:
People with an impeccable track record in matters such as these say the iPhone in below photo, published by gadget blog Engadget in the hours leading up to Apple’s iPad announcement last Wednesday, is a prototype of one of the handsets due to hit the market in roughly five months.
iPhone rumors are the best in the world. Even iPad rumors are nothing in front of iPhone rumors right?

Let the iPhone 4th Gen (4G) rumor roll-in!!! Engadget has dug deep into the iPads 3.2 SDK and iPhone 3.1.3 firmware, and have found more evidence of iPhone 4G. Its code named N89 (might be shipped sometime during June-July).
Buried way inside the platform simulator lies a set of folders dedicated to specific models of iPhone OS-ready devices, including the iPhone 3GS, second generation iPod touch, something called the “K48? (yep, the codename we were told was the internal name for the iPad), and… the “N89.” Sure, it sounds like a Nokia phone just waiting to happen, but this is — according to our extremely knowledgeable and trusted sources — likely the codename of the next iPhone (previous versions were called the M68, N82, and N88).

If this comes true, iPhone 4Gs will run on Apple’s custom-designed A4 system-on-a-chip. This will be nearly 2 times more powerful than the iPhone 3GS. A4 chip is extremely power-efficient too, giving over 10 hours of video playback and over a month of standby time. The iPad’s speed and low power consumption comes from its use of Apple’s custom-designed A4 system-on-a-chip was one of the main highlights of Apple’s iPad launch last Wednesday. The chip opens apps faster, flips orientations faster, and even allows for some cool, new graphical effects.
And if this super chip runs the iPhone OS at super speeds, imagine what could happen to the iPhone
.
The chip was “breathtaking” in terms of speed and execution as it launched programs on the iPad instantly, Brookwood said. The iPad was also able to turn the screen to landscape mode almost instantly, something iPhones lag at. The iPhones could use a speed boost that the A4 chips could deliver, and Apple could run the chip at lower frequencies to provide the iPhones longer battery life.
“My guess is [the A4] is a lot faster than what they use in existing products,” Brookwood said.
Technology strategist Jim McGregor of In-Stat agreed with Brookwood, saying that Apple could spin the A4 silicon for the iPhone. The chip could undergo further modifications for the iPhone to fit the screen size and improve the device’s battery life.
Apple typically refreshes the iPhone design every year. The iPhone 3G S was announced by Apple last year, and an upgrade may come next year. The iPhone 3G S uses an Arm-based system-on-chip made by Samsung.
