Are you getting Sync Error 0xE8000043 after installing Cooliris?

I had installed this cool looking app called Cooliris last week. And after 2 days while I was syncing my iPhone, I got this error “Sync Error 0xE800004″ saying that iTunes couldnt install Cooliris on my iPhone. I the deleted that app from my iPhone. Wanted to add it again from iTunes and remove it from iTunes to get rid of that bugging error message.

But then when I tried to add Cooliris, iTunes would say that this app is not available in Indian Store. Then I realised that because Cooliris developers wanted to sell this app only to US customers, this problem started cropping up.

I am still getting this error “Sync Error 0xE8000043″ and will keep getting till Apple gets this sorted. This morning I checked the same problem on Apple Discussion forum. So many users are facing this very problem. Let me share those notes made by few frustrated users:

Topic : Sync Error 0xE8000043

  • When I tried to sync again iTunes told me I had a purchase on my phone that was not in iTunes and it asks if I want to transfer it over. No matter what I do iTunes thinks the application is on my Phone and it will try to remove it everytime I sync and it will gove me the 0xE8000043 error.
  • I have the exactly the same problem and done the same actions.
What is the name of the application that cannot be removed ?
In my case it is Cooliris.
  • I am having the same problem… also with CoolIris. Anyone have any other workarounds?
  • your app (cooliris) is the ONLY app so far to have this problem. i haven’t seen this with any other app i’ve downloaded and uninstalled. after wasting my time trying to solve it, it would have been nice if you owned up to it a bit more.

Does your iPhone 3G get sluggish after a while? QuickFix now

Quite a few iPhone 3G users who are on firmware might be facing this issue. iPhone 3G responds lightning fast for the first few days of its purchase. And then things start slowing down. As new apps keep getting added to the springboard, the speed at which iPhone responds also keeps slowing down. There is a definite fix for this very issue. iPhone is just like your laptop, if you don’t switch off your laptop for days and keep it on, what happens. You will have to restart your computer to get back that much needed free memory. The same way, you will have do a few things to keep your iPhone’s response time optimum.

sluggish-speed Does your iPhone 3G get sluggish after a while? QuickFix now

Please note that there is no issue with the iPhone OS. It’s just that iPhone too need a few restarts regularly. Here are a list of things you can do to optimize your iPhone’s response time:

  • Memory Leaks - This happens when iPhone is kept ON all the time. If you feel that your iPhone shuts down when you press Power button, you are mistaken. iPhone just goes to sleep mode, but it doesn’t shut down. You should do this every 2-3 days if you are using iPhone apps daily or atleast once a week if you use iPhone sparingly - HOLD POWER BUTTON AND HOME BUTTON FOR 6-9 SECONDS. THE “SLIDE TO SWITCH OFF” SLIDER WILL THEN SHOWS UP. Switch off your iPhone and the press the power button for 1-2 seconds and restart your iPhone.
    ————-
  • Force Close Apps which are used often - If you use few apps often, force close that app once a while. This is how to force close app - START AN APP. WAIT FOR 4-7 SECONDS. HOLD THE HOME BUTTON FOR 6-9 SECONDS. The app will be forced to shut.
    ————-
  • Empty Safari cache - This should be done regularly if you are browse a lot on iPhone. GO TO SETTINGS > SAFARI > HIT CLEAR CACHE.

Hopefully these measures would help speed up iPhone…

Does your GMail crash iPhone Mail App?

gmail-crash Does your GMail crash iPhone Mail App?This happened to me a few times. But I was of the opinion that it might be because of some other reason. This issue occured when I accessed my GMail account through iPhone Mail app, the Mail app would crash. This wouldn’t happen when I accessed my POP3 mail accounts. I was checking iPhoneAtlas and found that there are quite of them who are facing this very issue. Here is what users on Apple Discussion forum are sharing:

Phone gmail IMAP keeps crashing - Discussion Thread:

>> I just updated to firmware on my iPhone 3G, and I have been having some major problems with gmail. Basically, in all mail applications, plus applications that use mail, the application will crash whenever I do something with email. I have another IMAP account on my phone, but this only happens with gmail.

>> I am experiencing the same problem and found (after the 4th restore) if you QUICKLY delete the account in settings after experiencing the problems (quickly since even the mail settings tab will freeze up) and then recreate it, you buy yourself a few more hours of use….
I hope Apple releases a fix soon, or else I have to weigh reverting back to .x.

iPhoneAtlas says:

Several users have reported an issue in which accessing Gmail accounts causes the iPhones Mail application to crash consistently. Likewise, any other applications that access Gmail, including Contacts, crashes when Gmail data are present.

Here is how to fix this issue:

  • Reset network settings: Settings > General > Reset network settings
  • Restore the iPhone in ITunes.
  • Change password Navigate to your Gmail account page on a computer and change the accounts password. Next, delete the Gmail account from the iPhone and reestablish it.

iPhone Bug No.2 - Security bug is related to Emergency Call

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (1 votes, average: 3 out of 5)

There was this bug in iPhone which allowed anyone to get around the iPhone’s passcode lock. This bug was fixed by Apple in the firmware update. There is this programmer’s 12 year old son who has discovered another small security bug in the Emergenct Call feature.

If you have turned on the passcode lock and disabled Preview, iPhone enables a mandatory passcode. If a message is received during the passcode entry or while the screen is locked, a generic message of “New Text Message” appears, to prevent viewing of messages without unlocking the phone. But Karl Kraft found a way to get around this:

If however the phone is placed in emergency call mode, any incoming messages are previewed instead of presented as the generic messages. Thus all I need to do to intercept the messages from his girlfriend is to place the phone in emergency mode and wait 30 seconds for the next sickly sweet message.

Not a big one though. I am sure Apple will get rid of this but with the 2.2 firmware update.

Here is a fix for iPhone not fetching mails automatically after 2.1firmware update. You got to downgrade the firmware to 2.0.2 and then upgrade it back to . The fetching problem would be solved. I know this is a bit tedious, but users who really want this feature dont have much choice I guess. Here is how to downgrade 2.1v to 2.0.2v.

Fetch/push emails not working post 2.1 update?

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)

I though I was the only one who was facing this fetch email issue. And when I checked these 2 threads on Apple iPhone’s discussion forum, I was convinced that I wasnt the only one. I guess we will have to wait for Apple to get rid of this bug with their next firmware update. Let me now briefly share a few messages on these two threads (12).

  • Mail fetch/push does not work. By that I mean, will not get mail on schedule.
I have Gmail, ME, 1 IMAP and 1 POP account.
If the phone is plugged into the wall outlet (charging) it will execute its schedule.
Otherwise the phone does not get mail unless I do it manually.
  • The Gmail account will not Push, the IMAP can if it is an Exchange server or Yahoo, and the POP will not Push. Set your iPhone to fetch every 15 minutes and see what happens.
  • Its not doing what its supposed to be doing regardless of account type.
    IMAP/POP, Fetch or Push.

  • Just curious if anyone is still having problems with pop mail fetching after the update. I still have long stretches of time where no e-mail is received, and then when I manually fetch mail, I get the spinning wheel and connecting until I exit mail. Sometimes I can get mail after just closing mail, and other times, I have to do a soft reset.
  • I have the same problem. No fetch on gmail at any interval. Only if i open mail, mails arrives.
  • I have a solution for you all. read this tread email is one of the things that you can sync.

Infact AppleInsider has a post on this very issue, here
As much as the iPhone firmware appears to have resolved many outstanding glitches with Apple’s device, an increasing number of users say the update has broken background e-mail checks.
Even so, Apple hasn’t as of yet chosen to inform all its technicians and is still asking Geniuses and other staff to perform normal troubleshooting, including phone replacements. For some customers, the lack of a more public and comprehensive recognition is pushing them to consider other smartphones that don’t suffer the same e-mail issues.

The process has been bugging me quite a few times of late. Everytime I connect my iPhone with my iTunes, iTunes starts backing up my iPhone files. This happens not once or twice, almost everytime I connect iPhone to iTunes. And this was testing all my patience. After searching for this problem over the web, I found this amazing fix. The steps I am going jot down works with windows iTunes. But if you are on Mac, scroll down and view the Cnet video.

Skipping Process on iTunes for Windows users:

  1. Look for iTunesPrefs.xml file.  If you install into default directories, you will find this in c:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes.  If you can’t see the file make sure that you make hidden files visible in your Windows Explorer.
  2. the iTunesPrefs.xml file - make a copy of it and store it somewhere else on your PC
  3. Open the iTunesPrefs.xml file using a text editor.  You might have to find a text editor aside from MS Notepad.
  4. In the code, you will have to look for a section called User Preferences.  The copy and paste the following snippet into the User Preferences section right after the first <dict> tag:
    <key>DeviceBackupsDisabled</key>
    <data>
    dHJ1ZQ==
    </data>
  5. Save the file and then restart your iTunes program.  Your next sync will exclude the unnecessary done on your iPhone.
If you want to enable backing up of your iPhone image again, simply erase the XML snippet that you included earlier

Note: If you are on unlocked/jailbroken iPhone, please please DO NOT upgrade your iPhone.

Hard Resetting your iPhone might improve it’s performance

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (1 votes, average: 4 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

After using iPhone 3G continuously for over 3 weeks, I found my iPhone’s response time had become a bit sluggish. And then, I synced my iPhone with iTunes after a break of  around 2 weeks.  Surprisingly, post this sync, my iPhone is responding pretty well. The page scrolls and application response time is better than what it was before the sync. I recommend syncing iPhone with iTunes regularly, atleast 3-4 times a month. Since I keep adding and removing apps from AppStore, a sync seems to flush out all those non-relevent files, I guess. For faster iPhone, I recommend not to have more than 9 pages of applications on iPhone springboard. There might be a bug in iPhone 2.0.2 firmware that slows down the OS when there are over 9 pages of apps. Hope this gets sorted out with firmware which is releasing tomorrow, the 9th Sept.

If you feel that your iPhone is not functioning as fast as it used to be and restarting it is doing no good, try Hard Reset - It might improve your iPhone’s performance. The term “Hard Reset” is a bit dicey. Hard Reset in ‘windows mobile’ terminology would mean that applications have gone bad and hard reset would restore the device to factory settings. But in iPhone’s terminology, it just means “Forced Reset” or a “Forced Reboot”.

Whenever I find my iPhone’s response time a bit sluggish, I would restart my iPhone by holding power and home button for 6+seconds. Would wait for ”Slide to power off” button to appear, and then ’slide it’ to turn it off. And then, press the power button to restart it. I would also hard reset my iPhone to speed it up. Regular hard resetting iPhone is not recommended. But if one hard resets his iPhone, he wouldn’t lose anything, for sure - all your contacts, ’s, notes, music, apps etc would still be there. Its like turning off a computer abruptly and then restarting it.

Here is how to Hard Reset iPhone:

  1. Press the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for more than 12-15 seconds, ignore the “Slide to power off” and keep holding.
restore-iphone-step1 How to restore iPhone to baseband firmware 1.1.1, 1.0.x or 1.1.2 without using iTunes default restore restore-iphone-step2 How to restore iPhone to baseband firmware 1.1.1, 1.0.x or 1.1.2 without using iTunes default restore
  2. The iPhone would go blank after few seconds and would automatically shut down.
  3. Wait for ~10 to 15 seconds and then turn the iPhone back on by hitting the sleep/wake button.
  4. You should now see the Apple logo, your iPhone is restarting and thus booting up.
  5. Your iPhone will now reboot. Hard Reset process is complete.

Note: If your apps crash quite often, Hard Reset it once, it might just do the trick.

    About Me

Hi, I have been using this awesome invention called iPhone in Bangalore, India from November 2007 and have gone nutzzz over this.
Nuts to an extent that I have started my own blog on iPhone. I will be covering various developments happening around Apple iPhone. Will cover everything and anything which is even remotely connected to the iPhone. But will put more emphasis on iPhone news and buzz from an Indian perspective.
