JailbreakMe.com has been updated to autofix this earlier issue where iPhone 4 jailbroken phones were not able to FaceTime or MMS.

If you are doing a fresh jailbreak, you will not have any of these issues. Existing users will need to do a “Complete Upgrade” of Cydia followed by a reset of Network Settings. To do this, simply launch Cydia and let the loading to finish. It will now automatically ask you to update Cydia. Touch on “Complete Upgrade” and reboot the device once it is done. Go to Settings –> General –> Reset –> Reset Network Settings. Reboot the device again. The problem should be fixed now.

And if you are stuck on purple-colored space screen of JailbreakMe? Check this post or follow the below instructions:

- You need to go to Settings > Safari > Clear History, Clear Cookies, Clear Cache

Consumer Reports doesn’t recommend iPhone 4 even with a free bumper offer

Consumer Reports has confirmed that Apple’s bumper does indeed alleviate the iPhone 4’s signal-loss problem. They also stated that they would recommend the iPhone 4 once Apple provided a free solution to the signal-loss problem. This is exactly what Apple has done, yet Consumer Reports will not give their recommendation.

The Bumper solves the signal-strength problem. So does a piece of duct tape, as we reported earlier, or just being careful how you hold the phone. But these options all put the onus on consumers to solve or pay for a fix. We’re still calling on Apple to provide an acceptable free solution to the iPhone 4’s signal-loss problem.

The Bumper, a skirt made of rubber and molded plastic that fits snugly around the phone with buttons that connect to those on the device and openings for its input jacks, is sold by Apple for $29 online and at their brick-and-mortar stores. There are other third-party cases for the iPhone 4—including many that are less expensive—and presumably some of those might remedy the signal problem as well, though we haven’t tested them.

Co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie have released an official response from RIM to Apple’s iPhone 4 press conference yesterday and Steve Jobs’ demonstration of a BlackBerry Bold 9700 suffering from similar signal-drop when death-gripped. Here is that copy:

blackberrybold9700 antenna iphone RIM and Nokia respond to iPhone 4s Antenna Press Conference

“Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple’s claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public’s understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple’s difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully designing industry-leading wireless data products with efficient and effective radio performance for over 20 years. During that time, RIM has avoided designs like the one Apple used in the iPhone 4 and instead has used innovative designs which reduce the risk for dropped calls, especially in areas of lower coverage. One thing is for certain, RIM’s customers don’t need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity. Apple clearly made certain design decisions and it should take responsibility for these decisions rather than trying to draw RIM and others into a situation that relates specifically to Apple.”

- Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie

And here is the official response from official response from Nokia

iphone nokia7 antenna RIM and Nokia respond to iPhone 4s Antenna Press Conference

Antenna design is a complex subject and has been a core competence at Nokia for decades, across hundreds of phone models. Nokia was the pioneer in internal antennas; the Nokia 8810, launched in 1998, was the first commercial phone with this feature.

Nokia has invested thousands of man hours in studying human behavior, including how people hold their phones for calls, music playing, web browsing and so on. As you would expect from a company focused on connecting people, we prioritize antenna performance over physical design if they are ever in conflict.

In general, antenna performance of a mobile device/phone may be affected with a tight grip, depending on how the device is held. That’s why Nokia designs our phones to ensure acceptable performance in all real life cases, for example when the phone is held in either hand. Nokia has invested thousands of man hours in studying how people hold their phones and allows for this in designs, for example by having antennas both at the top and bottom of the phone and by careful selection of materials and their use in the mechanical design.

There is this unhappy iPhone user named adamburtle who has shared this youtube video. Each one of you iPhone 3G users who have upgraded to iOS must watch. 80%-90% of users would right away relate to this video:

If you are looking for a solution for this issue, here is what you could do:

  1. Downgrade your firmware back to 3.1.3 – Check this post: There is way to downgrade iOS 4 back to iPhone 3G[S] 3.1.3/3.1.2
  2. Another way to free up some RAM so that your iPhone responds better. To do that you need to download an app called “FreeMemory” – Check this post: How To Speed Up Your iPhone 3G Running On iOS4? There is an app for that

Hope this helps…

I have been facing this issue from past few days too. Since I upgraded to iOS, my 3G’s Safari has stopped remembering user/password all together. And when I checked Apple discussion forum, I found so many more iPhone iOS users are facing similar issues. Apple seems to have missed browser user/password remember feature all over again. This had happened with iPhone 1.1.4 firmware as well. Hope they correct this issue with iOS 4.0.1 update. Apple discussion forum thread specifically mentions users with iPhone 3G and 3GS are facing this issue:

Topic : Since upgrade to iOS4 Safari does not remember passwords

  • Since I’ve updated my 3GS to iOS4 via ITunes, Mobile Safari keeps asking to save username and passwords, even if I’ve visited the site before and said “Yes” to save username and password, at the next visit, Safari doesn’t remember and I have to enter the details again.
I’ve already cleared Cache, History and Cookies, turned off and on the auto-fill option, but the problem persists.
  • Same here. Most annoying. A reset of all settings doesn’t help. A complete restore without restoring an old backup might, but is too much trouble.
  • I’m experiencing this too, except not with all web sites. For me it seems to be the WiFi login page on my university campus for which Safari refuses to remember logon info. For other websites it works.
With iPhone OS 3.1.3 it remembered the WiFi login name and password great, now it doesn’t and it asks me if I want to remember it each time. Each time I tap Yes and mutter, “yes, dammit!”. But it doesn’t help

When this happened with iPhone 1.1.4 firmware, Cydia had launched a free mod called “FixSafariCookie” which fixed this issue. I hope Cydia comes with a fix soon. You will have to Jailbreak you iPhone to look for this mod under Cydia. First add this repo – PwnCenter: http://apt.pwncenter.com/, and then search for FixSafariCookie under search. Let me know if you could find it.

Fix Safari Cookies via Cydia did the trick last time:

Tired of having to enter your username and password everytime you visit your favourite site? With FixSafariCookie not anymore! This package / utility overwrites your cookies and changes the permissions that safari can actually write and save your cookies.

Another option would to be wait for Apple to update iOS 4.0 to iOS 4.0.1, which might happen in coming weeks.

UPDATE: Looks like its due to iPhone being upgraded from 3.1.2/3 firmware to iOS, this issue has cropped. Try the below method to get back this feature. (Note: you need to install iFile from Cydia or access your iPhone using SSH shell and modify Cookies.plist.). This happens if iTunes puts back your settings, the cookies.plist file may get the ownership wrong.

  • You will have to delete Cookies.plist. Its located here file: /var/mobile/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist. You could winscp to your iPhone. Get this software from winscp.net.
  • Once you delete Cookies.plist, start Safari and check. Your password manager should work now.

mms iphone send fail 166x250 FixThisBug: AT&Ts iPhone MMS Send FailureIf you are on AT&T and own an iPhone, you might have surely activated MMS last week when AT&T finally allow MMS on iPhone. But there seem to be quite a number of users who are still not able to send MMS – check this topic MMS message send failure. CNET has shared this simple solution. Try it out and let me know if this works:

Warning notes:

  • All your preferences and settings are reset. Information, such as your contacts and calendars, and media, such as your songs and videos, aren’t deleted.
  • You will have to re-enter your passcode, Wi-Fi passwords, and your apps will all be rearranged alphabetically. Note: the latter issue is actually a neat find–now I know how to alphabetize my apps when I want them sorted that way. Drastic yet effective.
  • Additionally other settings like VPN, remembered Wi-Fi networks, etc., maybe lost.

Fixing the MMS send failure error message

  • Connect your iPhone 3G or 3GS to your computer.
  • Launch iTunes and go to the Summary tab for your iPhone.
  • Click the Restore button to restore your iPhone and allow it to use your most recent backup when prompted; iTunes should do this automatically. This process will take a while so it is recommended that you try it only when it is convenient and you are not in a hurry. Once it is completed your iPhone will reboot.
  • Launch Settings on your iPhone.
  • Go to General > Reset All Settings > enter your PIN if prompted
  • Try sending and receiving an MMS now.

If you are one of those thousands of iPhone users who upgrade to OS 3.1, you might have felt that your iPhone needs more rounds of charges as compared to previous OS version. This is happening due to OS 3.1 guys. For a change Apple has acknowledged this issue and Apple is contacting some affected customers as well to diagnose the root cause of this issue. Wired mag covered this news as well:

In Apple’s support forums, nearly 500 posts complain about the iPhone’s shortened battery life after upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1. The AppleCare help desk is contacting some of these forum members with an 11-part questionnaire, according to The iPhone Blog.

The questionnaire includes queries about possible power suckers such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and push e-mail. Question 10, for example, reads, “When you notice a power drop, does it seem to be a legitimate power drop, or rather an issue with the battery icon indicator?”

Thankfully I havent yet upgraded to OS 3.1 as I dont know Genius feature for Apps. I surely know what kinds of apps is good for me ;) . Anyways, coming back to this issue, there is no clear solution for this issue. Apple should release another firmware sometime soon to solve this issue. Till then you could try this out: Doing a clean wipe of the iPhone might help. You will have to go for a complete Restore. A painful proceedure :(

iPhone users who upgraded to 3.1 have been facing few crazy bugs

Seems like iPhone users who move to the lastest iPhone OS 3.1 are facing 2 crazy bugs. There seems to be no solution yet from Apple.

  1. Users with 3.1 firmware are experiencing random freezes and complete shutdowns of their iPhones. Even if you restart or reboot completely, it isnt helping.
  2. And iPhone’s iPod app isnt sorting the podcasts chronologically up or down (newest to oldest, or oldest to newest). Its all jumbled up.

If you are facing any more issues, please share it with us.
