        Try this
Hold your iPhone’s home button and power button for over 10-12 seconds. Keep holding even after slide to power off appears. Your iPhone will shut down. Wait for 10-20 seconds and then restart your iPhone by pressing power button. You phone should work fine then on.

If this doesnt work, you will have restore and unlock:
Go to ziphone.org and download ziphone software and the restore your iPhone fully and then hit “Do it all” button in that ziphone software. Ziphone will re-unlock and jailbreak your iPhone.

I was given a i phone by a friend who upgraded. He was on O2 and I am on T Mobile, so I used IZPHONE to unlock the phone, everything was working great. Duh!!! Then I did a stupid thing, when I connected my i phone to the i tunes website I upgraded, if was too late before I realised my error. Now my i phone is stuck in a loop on restore. It tells me everytime I plug in my i phone needs to restore. I have tried restoring to 1.1.4 but nothing happens or sometimes I get an error code 20 (did this by holding down the shift key and selecting it from a specific place). The problem is I cannot go inot DFU mode because of the loop, sometimes the PC tells me there is an error with my i phone and may not work properly. I am now trying to run the phone complete out of charge, but to be honest I dont think this will work either. Can anyone please tell me how to get it out of this loop please. I have tried hard and soft reset using the buttons, I have tried jailbreak programs. The problem is none of the programs recognise the phone because it is stuck in restore mode. All I get is the logo tell me to insert the usb cable in, I am now at my wits end.

The only answer to your problem is Pwnage. You will have to spend sometime going through http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ and figure out how to go about unlocking your iPhone again.

Before doing that, you can try this once. Hold the power button and home button for over 20seconds, till the phone automatically switches off and then restarts. Once you do that, download pwnagetool or winpwn and try restoring it.

Caroline was finally able to get her iPhone working. Thanks for sharing this piece of information, Caroline. I am sure this will be helpful to many more iPhone users. Let me share Caroline’s email:

Hi Dev - It is a I phone model A1203 8GB, my friend had if from new last year on an
O2 contract. Hope this help but all I get on the screen all the time is the the attached logo, it tells me to restore, I do and when I go back into I tunes it says this phone is in restore mode please restore. I have occasionally had the emergency number up. I have tried to run winpwn but it tells me the I tunes device dll is not present. I have reinstalled and uninstalled 7.5 a few times now. If you need anymore please email me. Hope this helps.
          ———-
Final mail - Just to let you know I solved the problem just in case anyone has one similar and looking on the net there are a few. I used QuickPwnRC3, bootloaders BL-39 and BL-46, I had to download all firmwares and just check restoring until I didn’t get an error and then lastly Pwnagetool. I unzip and ran the quickpwnRC3 and it was very self explanatory after that. Hope this can help anyone else.

Thanks again Caroline for sharing this information. ;)

Did you buy your iPhone from Airtel/Vodafone. If yes, contact them, they would replace it for you. It might cost you around Rs.12k.
If you dint buy from Airtel, check out this website - http://www.ifixit.com/Products/iPhone-3G/137.
I am afraid, nobody will be able to replace your screen in Bangalore.

Dev, First problem with my iphone.
Started yesterday , got a call from someone i could not hear clearly as if someone said hey how are you ..i could hear hey are you …you know missing /pausing kind of a thing …i thought may be coverage issue you know how voice cracks sometimes…now i am getting that all the time …like u try vodafone care .. starts hi welcome to vodafone care ….i cannot hear that clearly its for me ..hi ..come…voda…care…
i am thinking of restore but anyone had this weird thing?

Hey SD, sorry to hear this… You can try to hard restart once.
Hold your iPhone’s home button and power button for over 10-12 seconds. Keep holding even after slide to power off appears. Your iPhone will shut down. Wait for 10-20 seconds and then restart your iPhone by pressing power button.
            If this doesnt work:
Try to remove your SIM and put it back once. At times remove and putting back SIM also does the trick.

If nothing works, try to restore. But if you iPhone is 3G and still under warranty, give it back to Apple. Apple in India is as efficient as it is in the US. The other day my friend had some minor jarring noise in his speakers. He had spilled some cheese over his iPhone speakers. He took it to Apple, and Apple replaced his iPhone without asked a single question, within minutes.

If its not under warranty, restore it and then check. It might have happened due some application clash also.

Restore using ZiPhone or Pwnage along with QuickPwn. Let me know if you face any issue while restoring…

Yep did restore, working nice but damn takes time to download 237mb plus restoring… anyways happy its working.
Ok about the cheese incident your friend in India?
took it to apple ..you mean airtel/vodafone.
Still under warranty only been 3-4 months now….thats the only reason i have not tried jailbreaking it….
ne ways let me know on that cheese thing.

Cool… thankfully your iPhone is fine now.. Actually since your iPhone is under warranty, you dont have be bothered at all.

My friend has a 16gig iPhone 3G which he bought from Airtel. But when he checked with airtel regarding speaker issue, Airtel as usual passing the buck. So he called up at Apple customer care which is located in Bangalore itself. They asked him to bring the phone. Checked it once and found the speaker to be malfunctioning, brought a new 16gig iPhone from stores and handed over to him without asking any questions.

I am not sure if Apple care is in other cities of India, but if you face any issue, you can just call these guys. Find the number at the back side of your iPhone 3G box.

Hey Sunny.. I had answered this very question sometime back. Don’t buy iPhone from US. you will end up paying $420-450 when you buy iPhone there and then you will have cancel your contract with ATnT. and then you will have to buy turboSIM for another Rs.2000-4000 to unlock it.

The worst thing is, with that turboSIM you cannot upgrade your iPhone ever. and you will have cut your Airtel SIM to bit that turboSIM.
You will not be able to use all the functions of iPhone on turboSIM and move over its not at all reliable.

                  hi again,

wow that was fast..thnks . I believe the new iphone is costing only 200 $ for the 8gb..should i then buy this phone..? mreover my sister will handel the at&t contract, no issues there… if not then what is the best way to buy the iphone in india or elsewhere, without much head aches later..

                  regards,
                  sunny.

Hey Sunny… cool if you sis can take care of atnt’s other commitments, go for it. It will then just cost you Rs.10000 or so.

You will have to buy a turboSIM to unlock your phone. If you are buying from the US, look for turboSIMs for iPhone 3G in ebay.com, you will get some good ones for around $20-30. Get that along with the iPhone.

There would be instructions in the turboSIM, how to activate iPhone. You might have to trim your Airtel/Vodafone/Spice sim card to fit into that turboSIM. I guess with that your iPhone will get activated.

Few issues people face with these turboSIMs, include - few functions like WiFi and 3G not working at times, and upgrading issues. iPhone keeps getting regular firmware upgrades from Apple which make iPhone more bug free and add tons of new features. with turboSIM you will not be able to upgrade. and you will have to only one version of iTunes. iTunes cannot be upgraded to newer version.

Other than this, there are no other issues. For something like Rs.13000-14000, you will have iPhone3G which can be used with any SIM around the world.

                      Hey SD,
I checked with my friend regarding this. He said that he called up Apple at 08040455150 and then Apple asked him to mail to india_sales_support@group.apple.com. He was asked to deposit his iPhone at Airtel and wait for 10-15 days.

He got a new iPhone after a week.

So you might have to do the same.

                      hey hi Dev,
i had been to Vodafone store in Delhi yesterday i asked them if anyone having such a problem he said nothing like this ever came up so probably just a network thing , as its not constant sometimes it happens and most of the time its iphone working brilliantly .
i am a bit pessimistic so looking at it as half cup empty walla funda but i never had such a problem with Nokia.
anyways its not a big deal i think must be coverage thing. (fingers crossed)
he told me if i still feel somethings wrong with the phone hand it over to them and they will send it to Banglore and will take 30-45 days .
Basically the cracking voice happens very rarely so no such big deal …so no banglore for me at the moment hopefully its minor glitch and will go away…
Any pakka news regarding 21st 2.2 update?

                      Thanks for your info though.

I hope your cracking issue gets sorted soon. Hopefully its a vodafone issue. One of my friend who is a vodafone customer keeps losing his network. Maybe its due to tower issue.

There is no confirmed news on 21st 2.2 update. But since Gizmodo and Engadget have also covered it, most probably this might come true.

                        Cheers

                            About Me

Hi, I have been using this awesome invention called iPhone in Bangalore, India from November 2007 and have gone nutzzz over this.
Nuts to an extent that I have started my own blog on iPhone. I will be covering various developments happening around Apple iPhone. Will cover everything and anything which is even remotely connected to the iPhone. But will put more emphasis on iPhone news and buzz from an Indian perspective.
