id Software has finally released the original Doom on iPhone. Its called Doom Resurrection [$9.99, App Store]. This looks just like Doom 3 game and offers a first person shooting experience. TouchArcade had reviewed this app sometime back:
The best compliment I can offer to Doom Resurrection is that despite some controversial changes, it “feels” like Doom and is a lot of fun. And as a reviewer, there are games I have to play to the end and games I want to play to the end, and Doom Resurrection easily fell in the latter category. The game makes good use of the Doom 3 graphics and audio to provide an immersive game that sucks you in for the duration.
Features
• An all-new chapter of the DOOM saga designed exclusively for the iPhone and iPod Touch
• Advanced graphics engine designed from the ground up to take full advantage of the power found in Apple’s mobile devices
• Wield an arsenal of heavy-hitting weapons to defeat a variety of hideous monsters and bosses
• Innovative controls for fast-paced and accessible first-person action
• Intense story that new players and long-time DOOM fans can enjoy
iPhone battery would last over a day or two, if you take some simple measures while using your iPhone. Found this interesting post on CNET. Let me pull it up. For a detailed instructions, please click here:
Reset iPhone - Hold down the home and sleep buttons simultaneously until you see the white Apple logo indicating that your iPhone has restarted.
Restore with original settings - Restore your iPhone by launching iTunes and selecting the Restore option on your iPhone’s Summary page.
Drain the battery completely - Instead of charging it midway through a battery drain, add more juice only after the battery dies completel.
Force quit applications - If an application quits unexpectedly and you begin to notice poor battery life, relaunch the application, then force quit it by following the directions in this post.
Lock your iPhone - Make sure that your iPhone goes to sleep automatically when not in use.
Applications with Push Notifications - Few apps use location services and push notifications. You can turn off Location Services in Settings > General menu. You’ll have to deactivate Push Notifications for each app individually, also in the Setting menu.
Push notifications for e-mail - Turn this option off in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data before restarting your iPhone.
Checking fewer e-mail accounts - Deleting e-mail accounts or turning them off can preserve battery life as well.
Airplane mode - Since constantly seeking a cellular connection also drains the iPhone’s battery, the airplane mode is useful if you’re in an area with poor cellular coverage.
Reset network settings - Restarting your phone will delete any stored Wi-Fi passwords, DNS settings, and more.
Turn off Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth - Be sure to turn off these features when not in use.
Turn off 3G - The iPhone’s 3G radio consumes a lot of juice so turning if off will save power.
Adjust brightness - Dimming the screen definitely can extend battery life. Turning off the Auto-Brightness settings also will help.
Turn off the equalizer - Just like on the iPod, this feature can reduce battery life. Select Flat.
Remember this image? Wired.com had shared this photo of an affected white iPhone 3GS last week:
According to Wired’s Gadget Lab some white iPhones are getting so warm that their plastic cases are discoloring to pink or brown. The article continues with other examples and suggests that the issue could be related to faulty power-management software in iPhone OS 3.0.
Melissa J. Perenson of PC World had a toasty 3GS, too:
And at some point, I became aware the handset had become very hot. Very, very hot — not just on the back, but the entire length of the front face, too. I was using a game, and then later the Web browser for reading the news about Michael Jackson, all over a Wi-Fi connection while plugged in. And in those circumstances, well…toasty doesn’t even describe how surprisingly hot it got. It was too hot to even put the phone against my face. No discoloration to report, though; I have the black handset, and didn’t see any effects.
CNN today confirmed Steve Jobs has returned to work after a six-month medical leave:
“Steve Jobs is back to work. He is at Apple a few days a week and working from home the other days,” Apple spokesman Steve Dowling said. “We’re glad to have him back.”
“He’s an iconic figure that everybody wants around. He’s the world’s greatest salesman and that’s irreplaceable,” Gene Munster, a senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray, told CNN. “But as far as the product direction and the product quality, the road map for the next five years is already in place [at Apple].”
The newly launched Twitter client for iPhone Birdfeed [$4.99, App Store] seems to be a perfect mix of speed and simplicity. Developed by System of Touch, Birdfeed might be a bit expensive, but Techcrunch has something interesting to say:
Birdfeed has only been available for one day, so it’s too early to declare it the new de-facto iPhone Twitter client. But I will say that it’s closer than any other app has ever been to dethroning Tweetie, in my mind. It’s so good that I’ve already moved it onto my first page of apps on the iPhone, just to make sure it gets a fair shake against Tweetie. We’ll see what I’m still using in a week, but I suspect is may just be Birdfeed.

I have been getting quite a few mails of late asking for ways to downgrade iPhone 3.0 OS back to 2.2.1 or 2.2.0. I found the solution on macrumor forum. Thanks zekarious for sharing this hack:
How to downgrade the BB from 4.26.08 (current) to 2.28 (OS 2.2)
This HAS to be done on a PC. I’ve tried it a million and a half times on a mac. And it doesn’t work. Ok, first if you’ve upgraded to 3.0 and you’re stuck -
1 - find a pc you can use
2 - plug your iphone into the computer via usb
3 - turn the iphone off
4 - put into DFU mode by holding down home and power for 10 seconds exactly, then release power and keep holding home until your pc starts making some noises. it might say down at the bottom of the screen, llike new hardware, apple iphone DFU, something like that. you know you’ve put into DFU mode correctly when the iphone looks like its off, and in itunes, all it should say is iphone in recovery mode. and the only thing you should see is iPhone. everything else should say n/a.
5 - make sure you’ve downloaded the iphone software 2.2. shift click on restore, go find the 2.2 ipsw file and click open.
6 - itunes should say its restoring blah blah blah. it should come back with an error code of 1013. this is what you want. (if you get a 1604 code or something like that, go back and redo the whole thing over again, you havent gotten it into dfu correctly)
7 - make sure you’ve downloaded quickpwn. close itunes after the error code. open up quickpwn 2.2.5. ou should get a message asking you to reset the iphone by holding down the power and home buttons for 15 seconds, then release home and continue holding power for 2 more seconds. do so. once you’ve done that, dont jailbreak it. it won’t work. open up itunes, and your iphone should be activated.
8- dont upgrade to 2.2.1, it will go back to the plug into itunes symbol. just wait 8 days until iphone 3.0 is released and upgrade to that.
good luck hope this helps!
if you’ve tried downgrading to 2.2, or 2.2.1 you are going to have to re upgrade to 3.0 to follow the above steps. make sure you put into dfu to upgrade to 3.0.
There are quite a few hidden features in iPhone 3.0 OS that surely has gone unnoticed. You will be surely bookmark this page if you are addicted to iPhone 3G/S :). Check it out:

Tap Voice Memo Mic For A Virtual Mic Test - If you tap the graphical representation of the mic on the screen in the Voice Memos App on the iPhone (OS 3.0), the VU meter registers just like it would if you were tapping on a real mic.

As you can also press the home button once from any screen to get back to the Home screen, you can quickly reach search from any screen by tapping the home button, waiting a small amount of time, then tapping it again.
