The Register has this to say about on of the new Apple patent filing: Apple has apparently lifted the look-and-feel of an iPhone app from German developer FutureTap and used it in a software patent application, putting that developer in a sticky situation.
“I can’t really judge whether the inclusion of a 1:1 copy of our start screen in someone else’s patent is legal,” wrote FutureTap founder Ortwin Gentz in a posting on his company blog. “I just have to say, it doesn’t feel right.”
Macrumors is reporting something interesting about iPod - Apple generally holds an iPod and iTunes event, where they announce the new iPod family, every September. However, the rumors are pointing towards a mid-August event this year instead.
The MacMagazine today received information from a reliable source within Apple about a new event to the press that the company was planning to soon. Although the schedule cite the source as somewhere around 14 and 16, we bet our chips on a Monday or Tuesday – that is, 16 or August 17.
According to the source, the event will include a focus on the company’s next-generation iPod touch, as well as information on an iOS 4 release for iPad. Revisions to other iPod models would also appear to be a reasonable expectation, although the report does not have confirmation as to whether they would be launched at the August event or held until the following month.
Macrumors goes on to say that – rumors about the next-generation iPod touch have been circulating in recent weeks, with continuing evidence in both software betas and parts leaks suggesting that we can expect a front-facing FaceTime camera in the new iPod touch.
Apple’s support forums is abuzz with some more reports about iPhone 3GS having issues with iOS 4. But Apple is not acknowledging these reports. Whats happening is, after upgrading to iOS 4, some users claim to have encountered problems with MMS messaging, signal strength, random reboots, dropped calls, and other issues.
I just updated to 4.0.1 and not I get a weaker signal!!!! They need to fix this crap!! I have 2 bars in sitting in area that I have ALWAYS had FULL bars. Making the bars taller does fix anything.
I just did the upgrade from 4.0 to 4.0.1 on my 32g 3Gs and got an error with the firmware installation. Of course, I did a backup before doing the upgrade. I had to boot into recovery mode and do a restore, which took about one hour because I have so many songs, videos, and photos on my phone.
I had a perfectly good working I phone 3gs earlier today now I can’t make a call. I called apple and they couldn’t give me an answer. They said that restoring was a ” long term fix for now” lol. And it didn’t even fix it.
The media is going GaGa over this. Even though there was so much hue and cry about the antenna drop calls bug in iPhone 4, iPhone 4 owners are still so very satisfied with what they have. This survey was covered by ChangeWave and they found over 72% of users are “very satisfied” with the iPhone 4, the same smartphone which was repeatedly slammed by the media for dropped calls over the reception problems.
According to ChangeWave, the iPhone 4 made a slightly poorer showing than the iPhone 3G S – 82 percent of users were very satisfied with that phone – but a strong showing nonetheless. The emerging pattern is that while the iPhone 4 has been very well received by new owners, the survey findings aren’t quite at the nosebleed levels seen at a similar point in time for the 3GS launch.
“Despite the waves of controversy that surrounded the iPhone 4 within days of its launch, the latest Apple release is outperforming almost every other smart phone in the industry in terms of overall customer satisfaction and meeting owners’ expectations,” ChangeWave researchers wrote in a statement accompanying the survey.
“We’re not perfect, and phones aren’t perfect either, but we want to make all of our users happy,” Jobs said at the time. He added that Apple had unloaded more than 3 million iPhone 4 handsets since the June launch – and that the number of consumers actually complaining about bad reception was relatively small. “AppleCare data shows only 0.55% have called in about reception issues,” Jobs said.
I have had this app on my iPhone for ages. MiTube was always available in Cydia. With MiTube you can stream and download videos from YouTube Mobile. Its available for Free. Here is the App Store link

Apple released iOS 4.1 Beta 3 for developers just a while back. Engadget has discovered something which few older iPhone/iPod touch users might not like:
Looks like there’s some bad news for legacy users in this update… namely the fact that Game Center compatibility for second gen iPod touches and the iPhone 3G has been dropped. Thanks for nothing, Apple!
InformationWeek reporter Paul McDougall shared this a while back; ”Despite last week’s ruling that jailbreaking the iPhone is legal, Apple is still warning consumers that doing so is a violation of the company’s terms of service and that it reserves the right to terminate service to jailbreakers.”
“‘Apple strongly cautions against installing any software that hacks the OS,’ Apple says in a bulletin on its support forum,” McDougall reports. “‘It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of the iOS is a violation of the Phone end-user license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software,’ the note states.”
McDougall reports, “The note was published last month, prior to the Library of Congress’ ruling that jailbreaking is not a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and is therefore legal. But the fact that the warning remains on Apple’s support site indicates the company does not believe the ruling supercedes the terms of the iPhone EULA.”
The issue came to the foreground over the past weekend when a developer, who goes by the name Comex, released a new jailbreaking app. Known as Jailbreakme 2.0, the software is built to allow iPhone users to download and use applications that have not been through Apple’s normal approval process.
Jailbreakme 2.0 works with iPhone 4, as well as iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch devices that have been upgraded to iOS 4, which is the newest operating system for Apple’s mobile products. The developer is also working on a version for the iPad.
