Analysts believe that Apple will sell over 10 million iPhones in this fiscal quarter alone. This was reported by DigiTimes. Now that iPhones are selling pretty well in South Korea and China, 10 million for the quarter shouldnt be difficult:
Taiwan’s smartphone IC [integrated circuit] shipments reached 116.97 million units in the third quarter of 2009, up 30.9% sequentially, and market value amounted to US$613.7 million, up 32.0% sequentially, according to Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC). In the third quarter of 2009, sales of the Apple iPhone 3GS far exceeded expectations, and sales are expected to reach 10 million in the fourth quarter of 2009. iPhone chip suppliers have benefited from this development.
Two years back when the first iPhone was launched, Steve Jobs had announced that they hoped to sell 10 million iPhones by the year 2008. Selling that same amount in a single quarter is just awesome. With the kind of marketing strategies they have been following these numbers should surely become a reality this quarter itself.
Man, these analysts from Strand Consulting seems to have gone nuts. They are now terming iPhone users, as cases suffering Stockholm Syndrome. For those who dont know about this syndrome, it was used in reference to hostages that form bizarre attachments to their captors. Gizmodo discovered this Analysts who shares this:
“Apple has launched a beautiful phone with a fantastic user interface that has had a number of technological shortcomings that many iPhone users have accepted and defended, despite those shortcomings resulting in limitations in iPhone users’ daily lives.”
“When we examine the iPhone users’ arguments defending the iPhone, it reminds us of the famous Stockholm Syndrome – a term that was invented by psychologists after a hostage drama in Stockholm. Here hostages reacted to the psychological pressure they were experiencing, by defending the people that had held them hostage for 6 days.”
Man, isnt this called being a fan of something? Have these analysts gone utterly crazy? And this happens with major projects and breakthrough inventions as well and not just with the iPhone.
The BoyGeniusReport guys have discovered something cool over the weekend. The have found a reference to both iPhone OS 3.1.3 and the new iPhone OS 4.0 in their logs. This is cool. We should see 3.1.3 soon then. And 4.0 OS should happen in June 2010 when the 4th Gen iPhones might come to reality:
Apple has approved the first video recording app for older versions of iPhone, 3G and 2G. Called the ‘iVideoCamera’ costs around $0.99 [App Store link], it can record short videos on 3G and 2G iPhones. But it records at 3 frames per second. This is not acceptable at all. 3FPS is absolutely unimaginable for a video recorder. Saad first discovered this app on iPhoneIndia forum. And an interesting review from VK throws light on this very issue. More over it can only record for 1 minute max:
Well @ 3 FPS, you cant really say its video recording. It`s a piece of Crap IMHO. BTW, does it even record the sounds? I didnt see any mention so thought I`d confirm as you have it already.
And btw, a much better sorution would be jailbreak and install the recorder app from Cydia. Gives you a lot better result than this, I`ve tried it on my 2G earlier and the results were acceptable. Not 3GS quality recording but still usable. And btw, that one is free too
LIMITATIONS :
- The iPhone can only capture about 3 frames per second
- Videos are limited to about 1 minute in length
- Resolution is low: 160×213
The iVideoCamera lets your record a short video on any phone. Now you don’t need a 3GS to record and share videos with your friends and family. Works with any 2G or 3G phone with 3.1 OS installed and includes: Ability to save to your camera roll or “Photos” and share via:
- FaceBook, – YouTube, – Vimeo.
One of the most talked about augmented reality Twitter viewer TwittARound for the iPhone 3GS is now available on App Store. Basically TwittARound [$0.99, App Store link] shows current Tweets around your location right at the spot they were written via augmented reality using your iPhone 3GS’s compass and camera apps. First demonstrated in July 2009 it was the first augmented reality application for the iPhone showing real time social network data.
TwittARound’s Annotation Engine is 100% based on web technology and standards like HTML 5, Javascript and CSS and thus renders in every Webkit frame (Google Android, QT, …). Due to its scalability it will adapt WebGL (X3DOM) as soon as it will be available on mobile platforms.
Here is how this app works – Simply hold your iPhone upright, point it at the horizon and move it around. Touch the Tweet’s icon to read the message. New Tweets are added automatically.
Download this interesting game called the Stunt Wagon for Free, original price $1.99, with an average rating of 3.00 (78) [App Store link].
Join Edgar and Eva Zimmer in this wacky race to the finish line. Tilt your iPhone to steer the wagon in Stunt Wagon. Watch out for the pylons and tires. Tap the screen fly over obstacles. White stars give you special power-ups such as super-speed and bonus time. The green spirals are trouble. They can freeze you into a solid block or send you into the stratosphere! Race through all three levels.
This will surely turn out to the most promising iPhone callenger; called the Google Phone. And I am sure Google Phone will help iPhone get better… much better in coming days. Google has infact started testing this new Android powered Google phone with their employees, reports TechCrunch:
Google is building their own branded phone that they’ll sell directly and through retailers. They were long planning to have the phone be available by the holidays, but it has now slipped to early 2010. The phone will be produced by a major phone manufacturer but will only have Google branding (Microsoft did the same thing with their first Zunes, which were built by Toshiba).
There won’t be any negotiation or compromise over the phone’s design of features – Google is dictating every last piece of it. No splintering of the Android OS that makes some applications unusable. Like the iPhone for Apple, this phone will be Google’s pure vision of what a phone should be.
And will include the following details/features:
- Sold as an unlocked GSM phone, so in the U.S. T-Mobile and possibly AT&T
- Android 2.1
- Uses Snapdragon chip and is “really, really fast”
- High resolution OLED screen
- Thinner than iPhone
- Two mics, one on the back to reduce background noise
- “Weirdly” large camera
- Touchscreen keyboard
- Voice to text for dictation
