Now that 1.1.4 firmware has been released, users are facing few new issues that are cropping up. And there are those who are finding few of the previous issues getting resolved. Lets take this up:
First the good part of 1.1.4 update;
iPhone 1.1.4 boosts cell signal strength
A number of users are reporting that iPhone software/firmware 1.1.4 does indeed provide a healthy boost in cell signal strength, which was severely degraded for some users under the 1.1.3 software/firmware revision.
Apple updated the iPhone modem firmware with release 1.1.4, bringing it from version 4.03.13_G to version 4.0.4.05_G. The refined firmware is likely the cause of boosted signal strength. [Via - iphoneatlas.com]

iPhone 1.1.4 fixes Bluetooth, SMS ordering bugs SMS ordering problems Several readers reported that, after installing the iPhone software/firmware 1.1.3 update, SMS (text) messages are displayed out of order. Bluetooth blues iPhone software/firmware update 1.1.3 introduced some serious issues with third-party Bluetooth devices. These problems included incompatibility with GPS units from Garmin (StreetPilot C550, Nuvi 360, 760, etc.), some integrated car Bluetooth systems and more. These problems are, based on some reader reports, resolved under software/firmware 1.1.4. Problems sending mail Several users reported an issue where mail sent from the iPhone simply disappears into the void, never reaching its recipient, nor appearing in the “Sent Items” folder, and also never generating an error message indicating that anything has gone wrong. Lets look at the negatives;
The “location” feature on few iPhones stopped working after 1.1.4 update (”Maps”) . A user on discussions.apple.com reports: When I press the icon in the lower left corner of Maps (the little bulls eye), it spins, as though it is doing something, then nothing. The map stays where ever it was (and that is not my location.). WiFi is on and working fine.
One user bricked his iPhone while updating to 1.1.4 - He says - I updated to 1.1.4 my phone displays “No Service” while I’m at home, even when it’s sitting in its cradle. I used to have about 3, maybe 4 bars when the phone was docked on my desk now it says No Service. Now, I have a useless phone. Reboot, restore, sim card remove and replace… nothing. I can’t take it to Apple because they will blame it on a little blemish on the top right corner of my phone where I dropped it a long time ago. So basically I have a glorified iPod.
Another user downloaded 1.1.4 and tried to upgrade his iphone. Here is what he says - Out in the process of it preparing my iphone it says “the iphone could not be updated. an unknown error occured (1602)
This is a known error and Apple has resolved this error - Error 1601 or 1602 when restoring iPhone or iPod touch in iTunes. But the strange thing is that, still versions released by Apple are not fully bug free.

iPhone 3G hasn’t been unlocked yet. iPhone Dev Team, the only team working on iPhone 3G unlocking methods, haven’t yet unlocked iPhone 3G. Status on unlocking and jailbreaking iPhone 3G and 2.0.2 firmware
iPhone 3G and the 2.0, 2.0.1,2.0.2 and 2.1 firmwares are now released. The iPhone Dev Team have released the newest version of Pwnage tool, making it possible to activate and jailbreak the newest firmware. Owners of the old iPhone will also be able to unlock their phone. The new iPhone 3G is not possible to unlock at the moment.
Jailbreak/Quickpwn new iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G firmwares
Winpwn 2.5 beta is released. It supports jailbreaking (using quickpwn method) of all new firmwares: 2.0, 2.0.1 and 2.0.2. For the old iPhone unlock is also supported. Unlocking of iPhone 3G is not possible, but it does jailbreak iPhone 3G firmwares so that you can use Installer and Cydia. I will update the webpage as soon as it’s possible to unlock iPhone 3G. It seems that some people have been having problems with our initial release, so we have PwnageTool 2.0.1 for you. It addresses the following issues:
It auto-finds the bl39 and bl46 files better, if they’re on your computer
It creates the ~/Library/iTunes/Device Support/ folder if not present, which should help with some 1600 errors people have been having.
Many people have reported the PwnageTool not starting up at all (the icon never stops bouncing). This issue should be resolved now.
The Sparkle AppCast URL is fixed in this version, so automatic updates should work for future releases.
Because of the AppCast URL fix, we recommend that everyone who downloaded PwnageTool 2.0 get this version, if they want to stay up to date automatically.
N.B: if PwnageTool 2.0 pwned your phone correctly the first time, you do not need to pwn again with 2.0.4.

Yes, this was just the news I was waiting for. Pwnage (iPhoneDevTeam) has released their first software that can easily unlock 2.0 firmware and iPhone 3G. This is just awesome. Here is how to do unlock your iPhone 3G (users who have upgraded their 1st Gen iPhones to 2.0 firmware can unlock it as well)

iPhoneDevTeam - Update 1: Just to clear up some confusion over what this actually does: yes, it jailbreaks and unlocks older iPhones, and jailbreaks iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touches. We only support the 2.0 firmwares.
Update 2: It looks like there aren’t enough TCP ports on that server, so _BigBoss_ has generously offered to mirror it.
Update 3: If you get Error 1600 from iTunes (or if you see in your log a failure to prepare x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw), try: mkdir “~/Library/iTunes/Device Support” ; if that directory already exists, remove any files in it. Then re-run PwnageTool.

Make sure you get the correct version, not the early released one that came back before Apple officially released it. Then you have to remember to remove the .zip at the end and keep it as a .ipsw - The icon will change to a little package box. - from Lionman

There have been instances where users have upgraded to 1.1.4 using ZiPhone and are finding few strange issues cropping up. I would suggest to check these 3 posts of mine and try it out. I guess most of the issues which are cropping up are due to some files which are left in iPhone before upgrading to 1.1.4 and clashing with the new files which get installed. These usually happen when users install new apps through installer.app. Try either of these to article:
There are 2 ways to unlock/update iPhones. One way is to update the existing firmware(1.0.2, 1.1.1, 1.1.2 or 1.1.3) to the latest firmware that keeps getting released by Apple. Another one is to unlock iPhones that are bought by users all around the world. These iPhones come with latest firmware and are very difficult to unlock. I would recommend buying iPhones once the firmware that those iPhones are using have been jailbroken. You got to wait for 10 to 15 days after a new firmware has been released. This is a good time for people to find a way to jailbreak and unlock that very firmware. If you have any specific questions, do contact me any time.

iJailBreak 0.6 Released: Supports 1.1.4 on all iPhones and iPod Touches
We’ve just released iJailBreak 0.6 (referenced to before as 0.5.5). This version provides 1.1.4 support for all iPhones and iPod Touches, and, as before, allows you to freely enable the $20 iPhone apps. It also adds com.apple.afc2 support, allowing for easy manipulation of the filesystem.
As always, iJailBreak is released under the GNU General Public License version 2, and can be downloaded by choosing Check For Updates in the iJailBreak Menu Bar, or at our Google Code (see below)
