AT&T is developing a software that will let iPhone recognize voice commands. iPhone will be able to recognize these voice commands through a native app that might have to be installed. AppleInsider has this news and here is what they have to say:
The research project is based on a new version of AT&T’s WATSON speech recognition engine, dubbed Speech Mashups, that puts the entire feature on the web as a service that can be called upon from anywhere a high-speed Internet connection is possible.
This solution is limited and excludes iPhones without a sufficiently fast connection to AT&T’s servers or for native applications that don’t include web code; many of Apple’s own applications, for example, wouldn’t function with the feature.

Apple is now restricting the number of iPhones that are sold. AppleInsider has revealed that AT&T has released an internal memo restriction its customers to buy only one iPhone per creditcard or debitcard. Check this out:
“Effective May 14, 2008, customers can only purchase one iPhone at AT&T stores,” reads a copy of the memo obtained by AppleInsider. “The prior limit of three iPhones is no longer in effect.”
The exclusive US iPhone carrier said all requests to purchase more than one of the touch-screen handsets must be approved by a director or general manager, adding that cash and checks will no longer be accepted.
“Customers may only use credit or debit cards to purchase their iPhone,” the memo says.

TUAW had reported last week that AT&T started offering free WiFi to all its iPhone customers. But this service has been interupted all of a sudden. Check this message on TUAW;
AT&T offering free WiFi access for iPhone customers at several of their hotspot locations, including a few Starbucks stores. According to MacRumors, AT&T has disabled this free service. However, since AT&T never made an official announcement of this service, it seems possible that the free service was launched early (possibly for testing).

This news is confirmed by iLounge. iPhone users in US who are with AT&T can now surf the internet at wifi speed at any Starbucks at no additional cost, thanks to AT&T’s new offering. iLounge reports:
When a participating AT&T Wi-Fi network is accessed by an iPhone user, a specially-formatted page appears offering “Free AT&T Wi-Fi for iPhone.” iPhone users must enter their mobile phone number to gain access, likely indicating that users must also be AT&T customers in order to log on. In its recent announcement of the Wi-Fi partnership with Starbucks, AT&T said it would “soon extend the benefits of Wi-Fi at Starbucks to its wireless customers,” but has yet to make any further announcement concerning Wi-Fi access for iPhone users.

Seems like iPhone will be used more widely across the world post June 8th. Here is what Fortune Blog has to say about AT&T strategy post 3G iPhone launch.
When the 3G iPhone is introduced this summer, AT&T, the exclusive U.S. iPhone sales partner with Apple, will cut the price by as much as $200, according to a person familiar with the strategy.
AT&T is preparing to subsidize $200 of the cost of a new iPhone, bringing the price down to $199 for customers who sign two-year contracts, the source says. Apple is expected to have two versions of the new iPhone, an 8-gigabyte-memory and a 16-gigabyte-memory model with price tags widely expected to be $399 and $499.
