Let me now get to the most awaited enhancement in iPhone, the Cut-Copy & Paste feature. iPhone OS 3.0 update will be free to all iPhone version 1st gen as well as for 3G. User of iPod Touch will have pay $9.95 get this OS 3.0. Here is how Cut-Paste will work:
————————–
1. Double tap on text, and it automatically selects it — then puts grab points at the end of the selection, with a cut/copy/paste bubble above it.
2. To select a whole block, you double tap, slide with your finger or thumb (you get a new magnifying glass), and pull across what you want to grab.
3. Select Cut or Copy. And Paste it anywhere; Mail, Browser, Notes, SMS, or even within 3rd party apps.
Simple and Cool. You can even Shake the iPhone to UNDO
This is the news I have been waiting for. Even though this might turn out to be another rumor, I dont care. Just the feeling of having Copy-Paste in iPhone makes me feel GREAT. BTW – This news was first shared by Kevin Ross of Digg fame. Quite a few rumors shared by him hasn’t turned out to be true. Therefore I am over excited . This news has also been covered by Fortune:
Kevin (”Digg”) Rose’s confirms that Apple will finally introduce a copy-and-paste function in iPhone 3.0, the update to the device’s basic operating system scheduled to be unveiled at a special event this Tuesday, March 17.
According to Kevin, selecting text is done by double-tapping on a word, which will bring two quotation marks that can be adjusted to select the text you want. Once the text is selected, you can chose between copying, cutting, or pasting.
Kevin also talked what isn’t going to be in iPhone 3.0:
Clippy can be called the first and real copy-paste app that works with most of the iPhone’s native apps. But this works on jailbroken iPhones only. So if you have a jailbroken iPhone, go to Cydia and install Clippy. Here are few screenshots:
Clippy is a new native app (not a web app) that allows you to copy paste between the stock iPhone applications like Mail, Safari, Notes, etc. While it doesn’t work with many AppStore apps and you can only copy paste when you are editing txt it is a good step in the right direction.
To use you first need to be in the txt editor mode on the iPhone. In this case we’re replying to an email. First drag the cursor over the text you want to copy, press the “.?123″ button and select copy. Next move to whatever other app you’d like where you can edit text, press the “.?123″ button again, and select paste.
How to Install Clippy:
Clippy is available via Cydia. Just refresh and search for “clippy.”
At last, Copy Paste in iPhone will be possible. No, this feature is not added by Apple, but by ‘Pastebud’. Pastebud can be activated without adding any 3rd party app from AppStore, nor jailbreaking your iPhone. This feature will enable copy-paste of content from any website onto the mail.app in iPhone. Instructions to activate this feature in iPhone Safari’s bookmarks will be provided by Pastebud on his website by this friday.
BTW - I found another alternative. This ‘iCopy’ method has been there from early 1st get iPhone day – www.biocow.com/iCopy
UPDATE 2 – Our very own Shashwat from iPhoneForum has shared his experience with Pastebud. He loves it. Check out this thread with screenshots – iPhoneForum
If you have been looking for a copy-paste app for your iPhone, TextGuru is the one you got to check out and immediately download. I just did it just a while back. Its an amazing cup-paste app from AppStore. It uses to be $4.99 and I felt that was a bit expensive. This $0.99 offer is for limited time, and I must say this app is absolutely needed.

Let me clarify – this not a fully functional copy paste feature that we have been waiting for Apple to provide in iPhone. But this is a good option to start with. iCopy is the first application for the iPhone that allows you to copy and paste text and URL’s between web pages. You also have the option of emailing copied text or URL’s. Here is what iCopy has to say:
How does it work?
Install iCopy as a bookmark. (See directions below) Browse the web as you normally would. When you are on a page that has something you want to copy click your bookmarks icon and choose Copy/Paste. From the list choose “Copy Text” or “Copy URL”. If copying text, select the text you want to copy. If emailing text or a URL an email will open with the text or URL in the body. If you copied text, when you come to the page you want to paste to you once again click the bookmarks icon and click Copy/Paste. This time choose Paste. You’ll be redirected to our site for a second then returned to where you came from. Once again, click bookmarks and click Copy/Paste. This time an alert will tell you that you’re ready to paste. Click any text box on the page and your text is placed there.
Since you have to click the bookmark twice to paste it’s really more of a copy/paste/paste application.
You can copy and paste almost any text on the page. You can email a friend a great web page you found. Emailed text retains it’s HTML formatting including absolute links and images.
Apple will release an iPhone software update during MacWorld Expo 2008, well informed sources confirmed MacScoop. But it appears that the unpolished iPhone sofware version recently leaked on the Internet doesn’t include all the features of the final release.
The reports we obtained claim that the software update will add copy-paste, which is one of the most requested features by iPhone users, and will provide a few user interface improvements.
Additionally, the update should provide better stability and performance for the device which sometimes suffers from UI glitches and application hangs in its current version.
Sources also confirmed recent reports claiming that a soon to be released iPhone software update will offer very improved Google Maps with localization and hybrid view, mass SMS sending and multi-page editable home screen.
It is not out of question that other, non revealed yet features, appear with this update, our sources said. Be sure that we’lll keep you updated in case we obtain more information.
