No one can disagree to the fact that Siri has made iPhone 4S a big big success. This personal assistant for 4S has left iPhone 4 users craving for very long now. Today I found something real cool… The good news is Apple’s updated iOS 5.0.1 has come with a decrypted ramdisks which in lay-mans terms would mean that it would now be possible for Siri to port on to other iOS devices. What this means is that, earlier important files to get Siri working on other devices were encrypted in Apple’s file system. Decrypting them would be illegal and infringe on copyright and that is the main reason for it not being made available.
According to MuscleNerd, the release of the revised iOS 5.0.1 update means that it is now possible to extract the relevant Siri files without infringing on Apple’s copyright. It will now be interesting to see if those involved in porting Siri to other iOS devices see this as the green light and release it. We will let you know as soon as we hear anymore information.
Previously I had shared an examples of how hackers like Applidium had managed to hack Apple servers and port the feature on to other platforms like Android. It will be interesting to see if Apple would actually make Siri legally available on other iOS devices.
This passenger’s iPhone 4 started emitting a significant amount of dense smoke, accompanied by a red glow. The Flight Attendant carried out recovery actions immediately and the red glow was extinguished successfully, reports Regional Express (Rex) which is Australia’s regional airlines. Here is that iPhone 4:
iPhone 4S is coming to Indian stores on the 25th of this month. With that Apple iPhone 4 factory refurbished units are now available in India for Rs.22,500 for 16GB version, reports BGR. These units come with proper bill and one-year warranty. BGR says that:
Refurbished units should not be confused with usual second-hand units – these are sent back to the assembly factory where they are cleaned, and some components changed. They come with the same support as new phones. Apple will introduce the 8GB variant of the iPhone 4 and discontinue both the 16GB and 32GB variants once the iPhone 4S is launched.
This is great news. I too can vouch on these refurbished units as I have been using a iPod touch 8GB from last 1 year and I had got this from the US. So if you are looking for cheaper iPhones, go for these
Last week 9to5Mac shared Troughton-Smith’s video that showed Siri fully working on iPhone 4. These have finally fully hacked Siri to run on iPhone 4 and iPod touch. Check out 2 videos below where Siri completely runs on iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. Note that iPhone 4S jailbreak is necessary in order to accomplish the task of porting the proper files for Siri’s servers to connect to an iPhone 4.
This comparison video was posted on Youtube highlighting how much faster the iPhone 4S is than the iPhone 4 at launching apps. Pretty cool, check it out:
The iPhone shown is a 3 month old Apple referb. Both phones had just been installed with iOS5 (reformat) and rebooted. The clips are edited to remove the footage of me closing the apps. Each app launch was made with no other apps running.
Both phones are connected to the same wireless network.
Macrumors shared this interesting iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 images originally shared by a chinese site AppVV. AppVV has also shared photos of the new iPhone 4S alongside both CDMA and GSM iPhone 4 devices. This proves that AppVV got hold of an iPhone 4S before the official launch.
iPhone 4S is on the left, iPhone 4 GSM middle, and iPhone 4 CDMA right.
CNN covered this very interesting iPhone 4 story. Jarrod McKinney said he was in such a rush to “get out the door” of the plane on a recent skydiving trip that he forgot to secure his iPhone 4, CNNreports. After slipping out of a skydiver’s pocket, one of Apple’s iPhone 4 units survived a 13,500-foot drop and can still make and receive calls.
“I just knew it was gone. Falling from that height? (What are) the chances of you finding something like that or even knowing where to look?” he said. But, after touching down, McKinney used a “GPS tracking app” to locate the device, which had landed on the roof of a building roughly a half-mile away.
The instructor later called the phone as a joke and was surprised when the call actually went through. The device, which had been cracked once before after a tumble off a bathroom shelf, is still able to make and receive calls, despite the fact that its front and back glass surfaces had shattered. Of course the handset was protected by a Incipio-branded case that was broken on impact.
Johnson was impressed by the iPhone’s durability and said he plans to purchase one for himself. “It goes to show you if I crash land and need an ambulance, they can still track me down with the GPS,” he said.
This video is so enchanting. It was recorded by an iPhone 4, as justkylevids put his front facing camera iPhone inside his guitar which started recording. He shared it on Youtube, check it out. Via Mashable.
I just happened upon this trick when testing what it was like filming from inside my guitar. *Note this effect is due to the rolling shutter, which is non-representative of how strings actually vibrate.
Tips:
• You must have the strings brightly backlit to get the camera to capture at such a high frame rate (pure conjecture). You can see how the effect fades when the buildings come into view.
• Use a pencil
*This was used with the front facing camera, try the back camera, it may capture better!
The final outcome is pretty awesome, and as explained is due to the rolling shutter of the iPhone 4?s camera. Very cool stuff:
Apple aired a new iPhone 4 ad with AirPlay feature over the weekend. Pretty interesting, check it out – If you don’t have an iPhone, you don’t have AirPlay. Which makes it easy to share your music, photos, and videos from your phone, on your TV.
This is just out of the world. This non working iPhone 4 prototype listed on Ebay and currently getting bided for a whopping $60,100. This is the same phone which was used by Apple engineers for testing. 9to5Mac reports that, this listing comes from a user by the name of jtmaxo, who lists the device as ‘Apple iPhone 4 black APPLE GENUINE PROTOTYPE, GENUINE’. In the description the users states the device as a GSM iPhone labeled with the model number XXXXX FCC ID: BCGAXXXXX IC ID: 579C-AXXXXX.
Just like Gizmodo’s iPhone 4 prototype, the volume buttons are missing ‘+’ and ‘-’ labels and storage information (XXGB) on the back of the device. Also, the seller says the device won’t activate through an AT&T SIM card plugged in through iTunes. Lastly, on the front of the device a ’DF1692? label is shown, which is thought of as a tracking code used by Apple. When the seller searched the serial number on Apple.com, it returned no results. So, where did the seller get this device?
