Apple’s WWDC is kicking off in just another 3 days and BGR has some interesting rumor to share. BGR has heard from the AT&T sources that AT&T’s sales targets for June are way too high and according to BGR’s calculation, June 18th could be the actual launch date of iPhone HD/4G
We have confirmed with multiple AT&T store reps that their sales quotas for the month of June are ridiculously high. Yes, this means the iPhone is confirmed to launch in June, not July. Knowing how many units stores received per day/week last year, if the iPhone launched in the last week of June, on Friday the 25th, we’re pretty sure the new sales quotas couldn’t be met (in-store orders don’t count as they don’t get recognized until the customer picks them up). We have heard stores having a 25-30% increase in their sales quota, so we’d like to think the next Apple iPhone will launch on Friday, June 18th. We’ll see pretty shortly.
Check this completely white iPhone HD/4G, which was leaked last week. Pretty interesting right?
Wired reported this interesting piece on news that when Gizmodo editor Jason Chen’s residence was raided by the Police during the iPhone HD/4G prototype leak episode, something interesting happened. The search warrant affidavit copy talked about Steve Jobs himself calling Gizmodo editor Brian Lam to request the iPhone HD prototype back:
This 4th gen iPhone HD video comes from the same website which leaked yesterday’s Vietnamese iPhone HD photos. Pretty interesting video, check it out. Though iTunes couldnt be connected, this one is worth a watch:
Almost one month after Gizmodo showcased that leaked iPhone prototype, another website, Taoviet has shared few brand new 4th gen iPhone pictures. This iPhone has 16GB of internal memory. Apple might launch the new handset in three versions: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. This iPhone appeared in Vietnam, reports unwiredview.com.
The Columbia-based smartphone repair shop SmartPhone Medic has posted a video showcasing the outer shell of the next generation iPhone along with the front screen LCD. Macrumors covered this video:
The iPhone parts clearly resemble the leaked iPhone photos posted in April. Apple has since acknowledged that that iPhone was a prototype design, and is widely expected to represent the next generation iPhone. It seems they aren’t the only ones who have been able to obtain early parts of the next generation iPhone. Late last week, iSpazio posted photos of the LCD portion of the next generation iPhone.
Apple might announce iPhone HD/4G by 7th of June 2010.
Another interesting rumor about iPhone OS 4.0 – the iPhone 4 SDK contains references to capturing video at 720p, or 1280×720. After Apple seeded the iPhone OS 4.0 beta 3 to developers sometime back, reports of interesting new features in OS 4.0 have started pouring in. Apple kept this SDK online for just a while and then it pulled it off. They might release this OS anytime soon anyways.
And this time Macrumors has founds something very interesting – the iPhone 4 SDK contains references to capturing video at 720p, or 1280×720. As of now, iPhone 3G/3GS are only capable of capturing video at 640×480. If this happens iPhone might be named ‘iPhone HD.’
Arnold Kim reports for MacRumors, “One of the many new features provided to developers in iPhone OS 4 are new APIs that give developers full access to Video capture data.”
“This could open the door to some interesting apps including Video Capture/Editing and more robust Augmented Reality apps when iPhone OS 4 finally becomes available to the public,” Kim reports.
“The iPhone 4 Beta SDK, however, also reveals the ability to capture video at higher resolutions than the current standard 640×480 (‘VGA’) resolution,” Kim reports. “These preset values suggest that a future iPhone will be able to capture at 720p (1280×720) resolution.”
AppleInsider has just reported that 4th Gen iPhone will use a 5-megapixel camera provided by LG Innotek. Currently iPhone 3GS uses 3-megapixel camerat without any flash. The new 5-megapixel might also sport a camera flash.
The Chosunreported Wednesday that the Korea-based electronics component maker began “producing the sophisticated cameras at its plant in Gumi this month and will mass produce them starting in the second half of this year.”
Apple is expected to unveil iPhone HD/4G at WWDC on 7th June.
Apple has just put up this year’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC 2010) page, and dates have been announced — June 7-11 at the Moscone West venue in San Francisco. Awesome!!!
Every year in the month of June, Apple announces a refreshed iPhone. This has been happening from last 3 years in a row. In 2007 it was the 1st Gen iPhone, 2008 saw iPhone 3G and 2009 saw iPhone 3GS. This year Apple will surely announce the same iPhone which Gizmodo leaked sometime back. If you havent yet seen this 4th Gen iPhone which will most likely be called iPhone HD, check this post. And according to MacNN, this year something new will happen – the 4th gen iPhone will not only be announced during the WWDC on 7th June, it will actually be released at the same time. MacNN got this confirmed from sources “familiar with the situation.” But I am not too sure about this, as few top iPhone bloggers are not confirming this news.
But if this happens, iPhone could possibly go on sale as early as June 7th. WOW!!!
Why Apple would move up iPhone shipping times is unknown, but some speculation suggests that the tactic could be linked to the leak of a prototype. With many of the basic hardware changes now public, Apple could feel a quick launch necessary to maintain interest.
This change of pace would actually align the iPhone with the iPod, which for several years now has had various new models both announced and launched at the same time.
The iPhone HD/4G prototype surfaced around a week back and now this issue has been officially being looked into by the local law enforcement in California. Gizmodo might also get into the soup:
Apple has spoken to local police about the incident and the investigation is believed to be headed by a computer crime task force led by the Santa Clara County district attorney’s office, the source said. Apple’s Cupertino headquarters is in Santa Clara County, about 40 miles south of San Francisco.
CNET covered this news sometime back and goes on to say that, the purpose of an investigation is to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to file criminal charges. Spokesmen for Santa Clara County and San Mateo County — home to the Redwood City bar — declined to comment. Representatives for Apple and Gawker Media did not immediately respond to interview requests.
Under a California law dating back to 1872, any person who finds lost property and knows who the owner is likely to be but “appropriates such property to his own use” is guilty of theft. If the value of the property exceeds $400, more serious charges of grand theft can be filed. In addition, a second state law says that any person who knowingly receives property that has been obtained illegally can be imprisoned for up to one year.
Apple must be cursing its luck by now. The most secretive electronics company in the world lost its most secretive gadget in no time some days back. And that gadget landed in the hands of the most powerful tech blog in the world – Gizmodo. We neednt get into the ethical question of whether Gizmodo should have returned it back to Apple or not. They managed to buy the stolen/lost iPhone HD/4G for $5,000. Here is the whole story from the horse’s mouth:
“The Gourmet Haus Staudt. A nice place to enjoy good German ales,” Jesus Diaz reports for Gizmodo. “And if you are an Apple Software Engineer named Gray Powell and you get one too many beers, it’s also a nice place to lose the next-generation iPhone.”
“The 27-year-old Powell—a North Carolina State University 2006 graduate and talented amateur photographer—is an Apple Software Engineer working on the iPhone Baseband Software, the little program that enables the iPhone to make calls,” Diaz reports.
“On the night of March 18, he was enjoying the fine imported ales at Gourmet Haus Staudt, a nice German beer garden in Redwood City, California. He was happy. The place was great. The beer was excellent. ‘I underestimated how good German beer is,’ he typed into the next-generation iPhone he was testing on the field, cleverly disguised as an iPhone 3GS,” Diaz reports. “It was his last Facebook update from the secret iPhone. It was the last time he ever saw the iPhone, right before he abandoned it on bar stool, leaving to go home.”
It a simple, honest mistake. Something that anyone, from Steve Jobs to Jonathan Ive, could’ve done. Knowing how ferocious and ruthless Apple is about product leaks, those beers may have turned out to be the bitterest of his life.
Gizmodo says Powell left his phone on a stool at German bar Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, Calif. The story goes that a drunk person handed it to Mr. X, the person who got the prototype phone to Gizmodo after allegedly waiting at the bar to see if its owner would come back to claim it. He didn’t.
Mr. X then found out who Powell was via the Facebook app in the phone. The next day Apple wiped the device, so Mr. X contacted Gizmodo. The rest is history. Follow the complete story here…
Gizmodo goes on to say that it got in touch with Powell over the telephone and offered to return the phone, which he asked they do through Apple.
I know you can check all these leaked photos on Gizmodo too. But I am so damn excited about this new AWESOME LOOKING IPHONE, that I am going to save all of these leaked prototype pictures on my server too. Hope you dont mind Gizmodo ). (here is the original post)
I have completely completely fallen for this awesome new iPhone HD or iPhone 4G or what ever you might call it. I am going to be the first to pick this piece of art, whenever it releases. JUST TOOOOOO COOOL… Thanks Steve Jobs!!!
