This comes as a pleasant surprise to all those iPhone developers who were bound by Apples while developing apps for iPhone. This new lease of freadom will allow developers to collaborate with each other, conduct developer training sessions, and print guides and tutorials. AppleInsider has more to add:

The new terms [PDF] replace the previous all-inclusive that broadly covered any discussion of the software and tools included in the , which itself was available for anyone to download after agreeing to the .

Here is what Apple has to say:

“We put the in place because the iPhone OS includes many Apple inventions and innovations that we would like to protect, so that others don’t steal our work. It has happened before. While we have filed for hundreds of patents on iPhone technology, the added yet another level of protection. We put it in place as one more way to help protect the iPhone from being ripped off by others.

“However, the has created too much of a burden on developers, authors and others interested in helping further the iPhone’s success, so we are dropping it for released software. Developers will receive a new agreement without an covering released software within a week or so. Please note that unreleased software and features will remain under until they are released.

“Thanks to everyone who provided us constructive feedback on this matter.”

The new agreement continues to restrict Apple Confidential Information, including “any Apple pre-release software (including related documentation and materials) and any information disclosed by Apple to you in connection with Apple Events or Paid Content.”

Awesome stuff - This is an early preview of the next version of Photoboard App for iPhone / iPod Touch. The program presents a grid surface upon which photos from the user library can be laid. The grid can then be navigated, and photos rotated and manipulated. It’s essentially akin to Microsoft’s Surface in look and feel.

There are some new ways of moving the pictures :
- Moving several pictures at the time
- Moving / rotating the whole photo board
- Moving a picture while scrolling through the board

The previous “scaling by pinching” feature is missing in the video and still under development.
This version runs on the 1.2 firmware emulator (included in Apple SDK)

This is news… Google APIs can now be used in the SDK. This will help developers to integrated Google applications into and come with some interesting stuffs. Check this from Code.Google - The Google data APIs provide a simple protocol for reading and writing data on the web. Many Google services provide a Google data API.

Each of the following Google services provides a Google data API and this can be integrated into the SDK while building applications:

Additional services with Google data APIs that are not yet supported by the Objective-C Client Library:

The Google Data APIs Objective-C Client Library provides a Mac OS X framework and source code that make it easy to access data through Google Data APIs.

To get started with Google data APIs and the Objective-C Client Library, read the introduction.

Much awaited iPhone SDK will be delayed by 1-3 weeks

Business week has reported that the much awaited will be delayed. This is what Arik Hesseldahl from BusinessWeek had to say - There’s a week to go before Apple’s commitment to release the iPhone Software Developers Kit in February runs out of room.

I’m hearing from one source that its going to be late. I’m not yet hearing any reasons why, and it’s sounding like the official release date could slide by anywhere from one to three weeks.

Apple had no comment, and as yet there’s no word on any events related to an SDK release next week. However I’m also hearing that the situation is fluid, and a lot of last-minute decisions are close to being made about what precisely will or will not be disclosed next week, if anything. There are, apparently, a lot of moving parts to something this complex.
