TechCrunch shares this exact quote sometime back which they claim to have heard from multiple times second and third hand from independent sources.
“This will be the most important thing I’ve ever done” – Steve Jobs
, referring to the soon-to-be-launched Apple Tablet.
Senior Apple
execs and friends of Jobs are telling people that he’s about as excited about the upcoming Apple Tablet as he’s ever been. Coming from the man who has created so much, that’s saying something.

Engadget dug this interesting info – there is this mobile analytics company called Flurry which has detected around 50 devices on Apple’s Cupertino campus that have the characteristics of a tablet. And these 50 devices are running a somewhat modified version of the iPhone OS 3.2. Here is more from Engadget:
Around 200 different apps with Flurry’s tracking code were downloaded and used on these mystery devices — mostly games, followed by entertainment and media apps — and Flurry first noticed this new device in October, with numbers picking up in January. Unfortunately, Flurry hasn’t said what these mysterious tablet characteristics are, so we don’t have much to go on — and without specifics like a bigger screen size or a faster processor we’re skeptical.

AppleInsider has some interesting scoop on how the iSlate/iPad would look. Few sources from Apple have shared this information with AppleInsider:
Of all the mockups and renderings that have surfaced on the Web attempting to depict what the final product will look like, the rendition .. created by Flickr user Fotoboer.nl last August is strikingly close to the real deal, those same people say…
Nestled in an aluminum shell that leverages the Apple’s expertise in unibody construction but thinner proportionality than the original iPhone, the tablet reportedly sports all of the same buttons found on the handset, right down to its iconic home button — which, like the volume toggle, is missing from the rendering.
… the tablet is said to sport all the same in/out connectivity as the current iPhone 3GS, including a 3.5-mm stereo headphone jack, built-in speaker grills, a microphone, GPS, 3G connectivity and a 30-pin dock connector. Like the rendering, its 10-inch display is framed by a black border that bleeds into its wrap-around aluminum enclosure.
Here is that mockup:

Mac News Network believes that the Apple’s Tablet might most likely be called the ‘iPad’. The real name would be revealed only on the 27th of this month. Quite a few names have been making rounds all this while – iSlate, iTablet, iBook, iGuide… Mashable shared this interesting post on why and how ‘iPad’ is turning out to be the most likely name for the Apple’s Tablet.
Apple has filed for a trademark on that name in Canada, Europe, and Hong Kong, but in the U.S. that trademark is already tied up by Fujitsu. The Japanese corporation has an existing product using that name: a handheld device used by workers in retail.
Yet while Fujitsu first filed for the trademark in 2003, at some point they stopped responding to the US Patent and Trademark Office’s requests for additional information. The USPTO never awarded the official trademark and ended up declaring the name “abandoned” in April 2009.
Mashable says that launching an actual product under the iPad name before that date may strengthen Apple’s legal claim to the mark, leading to logical speculation that iPad is the chosen forerunner for the tablet’s name.

The Wall Street Journal share some fresh new details last evening about Apple’s iSlate/iTablet: Apple sees its tablet as a device that will be shared by multiple family members — and it might even recognize their faces. AppleInsider shared this interesting piece on info: Reporters Yukari Iwatani Kane and Ethan Smith cited numerous sources familiar with the tablet in revealing that Apple intends to focus its tablet on providing content from multiple “old media” business sources, including textbooks, newspapers and television. Apple has reportedly pitched the tablet as a device that can be shared amongst family members and used for reading news and checking e-mail.
“The person said that Apple has experimented with the ability to leave virtual sticky notes on the device and for the gadget to automatically recognize individuals via a built-in camera,” the report said. “It’s unclear whether these features will be included at launch.”

Quick Update: FoxNews says the event “would likely” focus not only on the Apple Tablet, but also on a brand new iPhone OS 4.0, as well as on iLife 2010 (iLife 2010 is a new version of Apple’s suite of software apps for managing, editing, and publishing photos, music and videos).
I spoke to a source at Apple this morning, before the invite hit my inbox, who said the event would likely focus on three projects: The tablet device, iPhone 4, and a new round of iLife 2010 software. While we won’t see new iPhone hardware just yet, we will see the next-generation software.

Finally the iSlate is going be launched. Will it be called the iSlate or iTablet? What ever it may be called, I am sure 27th is going to rock. Check this iSlate concept created by Cosmo Scharf (celipovideos). Cosmo shared this interesting concept this morning via email:

BGR shared this very interesting rumor about the iSlate. BGR goes on to say that Apple’s rumored-iSlate is going to be ‘iPhone on steroids’ and is going to be big, fast iPhone with multi-touch functionality.
- The tablet’s multi-touch gestures are “out of control.”
- It’s powered by an incredibly fast ARM CPU
- It runs on the iPhone kernel.
- The internal model number is K48AP.
- There hasn’t been an updated iPhone OS build because there’s too much tablet-related code/references in the OS and Apple obviously didn’t want that to leak. Oops.
- The tablet is basically an “iPhone on steroids.”
