The guys from a company called Global Direct Parts posted a Youtube video this morning claiming that the video showcases a comparison of parts between the iPhone 4 and the next gen iPhone (5). And then Apple requested YouTube to remove this video, confirming that it might be the real iPhone 5. BGR covered this news and updated their blog with this post:
UPDATE: It looks like this is indeed the real deal — the video has been removed from YouTube, likely at Apple’s request
Just a while back another video was uploaded on Youtube. Looks like this is getting real interesting. Here is that video:
BGR goes on to say that this video is indeed iPhone 5. Great great news guys
We get a crystal clear look at the charging-port flex-cable and outer aluminum skeleton of the device. There are several key differences between the iPhone 4 parts and the new parts we are being shown — displayed side by side in the video — including the absence of several of the black, plastic strips on the casing. This new iPhone shell still has a micro-SIM card slot, which could mean several things: it belongs to a global CDMA iPhone, it is a slight retooling of the current GSM iPhone 4 (iPhone 4GS anyone?), or… it’s just a fake (that’s still an option too). At the beginning of the video, around 0:23, the company appears to have a fully assembled version of the device and leaves us with the following taunt: “more coming next week.” While this video is from an unverified entity, it looks legitimate enough to warrant mention. Hit the break to have a peek and make sure to weigh in with your comments
However, this whole thing could also be staged, but it’s much more fun to hope that this is the real deal!
There are numerous similarities between the devices and also a few differences. Differences mostly include internal screws and small internalparts, but the outside has seen the biggest change. Most notably, the black antenna lines that debuted on the iPhone 4 have been moved around on the supposed iPhone 5.
Cool.. When I heard this phrase ‘iPhone Video’ for the first time, I felt somewhat strange. But within no time, I started relating the Next-Gen iPhone with this phrase – iPhone Video. Cool.. Cool.. Nice name . Let me quickly hit the source of this latest rumor – TUAW reported last evening that they received an anonymous tip containing a screenshot of an AT&T support page that lists an “iPhone Video” device alongside listings for the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G.
Infact AppleInsider had earlier reported that that new model placeholders have begun appearing in inventory for Carphone Warehouse, a retailer that resells the iPhone. These models were labeled with a “V3″, which could simply mean Version 3, or the V may also stand for “Video” or “Video 3G”.
Wall Street Journal’s Walter S. Mossberg has some interesting info about the upcoming Next-Gen iPhone. Engadget also talked about this point and what he might have meant when he said this:
“Whether the Pre is better than the iPhone depends on your personal preferences, though I’d note that the new iPhone to be unveiled next week will have lots of added features that could alter those calculations.”
And here is what Engadget thinks:
Walt could simply be talking about all the great stuff 3.0 will bring to the platform, but we tend to think there’s something a little more revealing afoot here — the notion that the new iPhone is awesome enough to potentially tip the scale against the Pre for some cross-shoppers.
More rumors getting leaked just before June 8th Keynotes at WWDC -”Next-Gen iPhone will come in 6 versions”, according to iLounge’s tipster:
We’ve been told that the next-generation iPhone will come in six versions: two storage capacities each for 3G, enhanced 3G (“3.5G/3.75G”), and mainland China versions of the phone, which will have the same size and general design of the current model, but with a less scratchable matte plastic body. Each of the three versions has been made to match the telecom systems of specific countries, so users in one country shouldn’t expect to have the option between a “slow iPhone” and “fast iPhone.” As before, you’ll get capacity options and different colors.
Now that the whole iPhone blogosphere is abuzz with this new set of leaked Next-Gen iPhone specs, let me pull out one of iPhone concepts that I had shared a few weeks back. Note that there is a mention of “Sleeker design” in the list.
Would the Next-Gen iPhone look somewhat like this?
Take a look at these fresh specifications of the Next-Gen iPhone which was leaked last evening. These specs look pretty close to the previous leaked specs that were posted on Macrumors, but quite a few additional info have been added. But few of these specs look weird to me. Check it out:
* 32GB and 16GB to replace current capacities
* $199 and $299 price-points to be maintained
* 3.2 Megapixel camera
* Video recording & editing capabilities
* Ability to send a picture & video via MMS
* Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device
* OLED screen
* 1.5X The battery life
* Double the RAM and processing power
* Built-in FM transmitter
* Apple logo on the back to light up
* Rubber-tread backing
* Sleeker design
* Built-in compass
* Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations.
* Turn by turn directions
* July 17th, 2009 release date
These specs has been shared by Appleiphoneapps and they claim that they were approached by a source who is closely connected to Apple’s hardware development team. Lets wait till 8th June and then check back on these leaked specs .
UPDATE: Gizmodo finds few of the above info wierd. Check this out:
So what’s weird? The OLED screen, for one. The 1.5x battery life, for two. And a rubber-tread backing/sleeker design for three. It’s still quite cost-prohibitive to use OLED screens on devices, and it’s difficult to see how Apple could shrink down the size of the device to make it “sleeker” while at the same time making the battery 1.5x. Maybe because they’re using an OLED screen?
Apples World Wide Developers Conference(WWDC) is nearing pretty quickly now and so are the rumors. The latest, coming from analyst Gene Munster, is that there will be no new hardware announcements. Munster is an analyst with Piper Jaffray. AppleInsider has more on this:
We believe Apple will focus on the new version of Mac OS X, Snow Leopard at WWDC. While some investors may be expecting Apple to launch redesigned iPhones at WWDC, we do not anticipate the launch in early June. Rather, we expect Apple to host a special event in late June or early July to launch a family of iPhones.
We continue to expect multiple models, possibly a high-end iPhone with improved specs from the current version and a low-end version with lower capacity and fewer features along with a reduced pricing plan. Such a model could also be used in Apple’s launch of the iPhone into China as soon as the end of summer ’09.
I had covered this news last evening about SlashGear sharing some more insights on the type of iPhones that might be launched this year. And now Commercial Times and Gizmodo have carried articles regarding the same. It looks like Apple might launch not just one Next-Gen iPhone but 3 models of iPhone this June.
A 2.75G version
An upgraded 3G version and
A China-oriented model, possibly to support a Chinese CDMA carrier
The report in Commercial Times makes sure to say that there won’t be an iPhone Nano. It goes on to say that component suppliers are reporting a first run of four million for the combined handsets, which is a lot, but not out of the question.
We all have been hearing about Next-Gen iPhone right? Well there is more to this. Chinatimes according to its source from iPhone component suppliers, Apple has already ordered 4 million units of new iPhones and expected to receive the shipment by end of this quarter.
These iPhones might be a combination of 3 new models, with one only supports EDGE wireless data connection, another one for 3G wireless data connection and one model made for China market (for China’s TD-SCDMA network?). There will not be iPhone Nano and the new iPhone 2009 will be similar to the current iPhone 3G, according to the report.
Techradar has shared some interesting insights on why we might end up seeing Next-Gen iPhone this June. For the complete coverage check out Techradar’s article.
The Next-Gen iPhone is rumored to be called iPhone 3G PRO. Therefore I am going call the new iPhone expected to be launched this June as iPhone 3G PRO . Coming to this rumor, DigiTimes has reported that Apple has already started shipping parts required for the PRO version.
Taiwan-based handset component suppliers have begun shipping components and parts for the new iPhone that Apple is likely to launch in June, the Chinese-language Commercial Times has quoted sources at component suppliers as indicating.
An analyst named Shaw Wu from Kaufman Brothers says that there is a strong evidence indicating that Apple is building 5-6 million new iPhones. This news was reported by Fortune; Wu’s sources indicate a “build plan” for the new models in the 5 million to 6 million unit range, considerably higher than his current 4.5 million estimate for the September quarter. Apple seems to be really bullish about the new iPhone 3G Pro, even in these recessionary times. Lets hope the new iPhone breaks all record. Few more findings of Wu include:
Two out of three: Wu had heard that there are three new iPhones in the works, but based on clues that developers are finding in the beta iPhone 3.0 software, he now believes “only two will see the light of day.”
iPhone Sr. and iPhone Jr: Wu hears that one of the new iPhones will have longer battery life and a much more powerful processor capable of running more complex apps. The other would be a less-powerful “junior” iPhone.
Millions of iPhones: Wu’s sources indicate a “build plan” for the new models in the 5 million to 6 million unit range, considerably higher than his current 4.5 million estimate for the September quarter (fiscal Q4).
