If you have jailbroken iOS 4 on iPhone 3G using Redsn0w 0.9.5, you might have noticed that Multitasking is not enabled. You can enable “Multitasking” option your iPhone 3G easily, but it will also upgrade your iPhone’s baseband to 05.13.04. In this case you should re-jailbreak your iPhone using PwnageTool 4.0. Jailbreaking iOS 4 on your iPhone with PwnageTools will preserve your baseband but if you forgot to enable “Multitasking” while jailbreaking your iPhone, follow the steps below to re-enable it.
The following steps will explain how you can enable “Multitasking” on your iPhone 3G even if your jailbreaked your iPhone via PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze.
Activate “Multitasking” on iPhone 3G Running iOS 4
First step is to install iFile on your iPhone / iPod Touch. You can find step-by-step guide here for iFile installation on iOS 4.0
Open “iFile” and and go to “root” directory. Tab on top left corner of your screen, it will take you root (/) directory.
Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app and look for N82AP.plist file.
Once you open N82AP.plist file, you will see the coding regarding your iPhone functions, you will need to edit the file and add “Multitasking” function to it and set it to “TRUE”.
Tab on “Edit” on top left corner of your screen.
To enable Multitasking add following strings to N82AP.plist file.

Once you are done with adding these strings, just tab on “Save” and “Done” and close the iFile app.
Restart or respiring your iPhone 3G and enjoy multitasking on it.
Just a while back I upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS 4.0. I must say this was the easiest way to upgrade my iPhone to iOS. So if you are looking at a reliable method to upgrade to iOS, look no further, go for one of below method from iClarified.
iTunes has been updated to V9.1 from V9.03. If you are using blackra1n, PLEASE DO NOT update iTunes to V9.1, if you want to keep your Jailbreak or Unlock status. This problem will occur if you are on Windows OS only. Geohot hasnt yet updated his twitter status. Lets wait and watch.

One another note, if you are redsn0w or PwnageTool jailbreak or unlock mode, you dont have to worry. Devteam’s MuscleNerd updated in his tweet last evening saying that iTunes 9.1 is safe for overall jailbreak, unlock, PwnageTool, redsn0w mac+pc, DFU mode, saurik’s server.
iPhone Dev Team released Pwnage Tool 3.1.5 yesterday. If you are on iPhone OS 3.1.3 and want to jailbreak or unlock your phone, go for this pwnage tool.
PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X will let you do so safely, preserving your jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock. (If you use the blacksn0w unlock (at baseband 05.11.07), you need to stay at 3.1.2.)
Over to iPhone Dev Team:
iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers should always be very wary to update their firmware. This is no exception. If you make a mistake along the way you may find yourself updating to official 3.1.3 in which case you will lose your unlock, possibly forever.
iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak.
If you really truly feel that you need to update, this version creates a custom 3.1.3 IPSW for you to restore to on your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS with early bootrom, iPod touch 1G, and iPod touch 2G with early bootrom. If you don’t know if you have an early bootrom or not, please avoid updating until you learn more.
Last evening Dev-Team upgraded their PwnageTool to 3.1.4 that would jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 using Mac OS X. This supports iPhone OS running on 3.1.2 on following devices – iPhone 2G/3G/3GS and iPod Touch 1G/2G. Over to Dev-Team.
The iPhone 3GS is now supported out of the box in PwnageTool 3.1.4 (or if you have upgraded to 3.1.x in iTunes)
The iPod 2G is still supported in PwnageTool 3.1.4 but you must already be jailbroken (we’ll update this if there’s a big demand from non-jailbroken ipt2G owners)
The iPod touch 3G is NOT supported
Please note that this jailbreak tool allows you to keep your baseband to unlocked at 3.1.2 and wouldnt unlock the new baseband. So you wont be able to unlock at this stage but would be able to unlock when ultrasn0w is released.
This release allows your baseband to remain unlocked at 3.1.2, but it does not unlock a new baseband put there by restoring to official 3.1.x. It is super important that people who need the unlock to understand they can keep it only by starting at 3.0 (or earlier) and updating solely to custom IPSWs that don’t update the baseband.
The iPhone Dev Team has done it again. iPhone 3GS can now be jailbroken (unlocking is not yet possible). If you are running iPhone OS 3.1 on 3GS, Dev-Team’s PwnageTool can bust open your iPhone, provided it was previously pwned in 3.0 or 3.0.1 . AWESOME.
But if your iPhone had 3.1 OS, out of the box, you cannot use this PwnageTool.

SUMMARY:
The iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3,assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 – PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box. If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment.
The iPod 2G is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the iPod 2G was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 – PwnageTool does not support the iPod 2G with 3.1 software out of the box.

You will need a Mac to get this done, since iPhoneDevTeam has only released the PwnageTool and the windows version of PwnageTool, quickPWN is still under development. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you can get it via Cydia or Icy).

Yes, this was just the news I was waiting for. Pwnage (iPhoneDevTeam) have released their first software that can easily unlock 2.0 firmware and iPhone 3G. This is just awesome. Here is how to do unlock your iPhone 3G (users who have upgraded their 1st Gen iPhones to 2.0 firmware can unlock it as well)

iPhoneDevTeam – Update 1: Just to clear up some confusion over what this actually does: yes, it jailbreaks and unlocks older iPhones, and jailbreaks iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touches. We only support the 2.0 firmwares.

Update 3: If you get Error 1600 from iTunes (or if you see in your log a failure to prepare x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw), try: mkdir “~/Library/iTunes/Device Support” ; if that directory already exists, remove any files in it. Then re-run PwnageTool.

Make sure you get the correct version, not the early released one that came back before Apple officially released it. Then you have to remember to remove the .zip at the end and keep it as a .ipsw – The icon will change to a little package box. - from Lionman

All this while pwnage, the revolutionary unlocking tool for iPhone was only for Macs. But this morning the guys behind this rocking tool have lauched winpwn, pwnage for windows. Its not fully ready yet but looks promising. It supports iPhone on 2.0 only which hasnt yet been released.
How does this winpwn works?
There is 2 parts of the pwnage hack. First part being the actual “pwn” which flashes a custom bootloader. This will allow you to load modified ipsw files (i.e ones that have custom logos and have already been jailbroken). Second part is the IPSW Builder which lets you customize your ipsws
