The iPhone world is abuzz with yellowsn0w :). iPhone 3G can go SIM-Independent and can be fully unlocked with a software. You dont need any turboSIM any more to unlock your iPhone 3G.

The best way to unlock your iPhone 3G would be follow step-by-step instructions published by CrunchGear. Let me briefly share with you all those steps. This is the most simple way to unlock and jailbreak your iPhone 3G. For a detailed flow with screenshots, follow CrunchGear:

How to unlock your 3G iPhone

Yellowsn0w is out and it’s ready to rock. Here’s how to become SIM-independent.

NB: Install the latest 2.2 firmware before beginning this process.

1. First, download quickpwn and jailbreak your phone.
2. Use the latest firmware to pwn your phone (download it from Apple here). This will allow you to install Cydia or Installer. If you just updated your phone or updated your phone on the computer you are running quickpwn on, you probably won’t have to download the firmware.
3. Then, add the repositories (DO NOT ENTER THESE URLs INTO YOUR BROWSER per Dev Team’s instructions).
   For Cydia enter: http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/
   For Installer enter: http://i.yellowsn0w.com/
4. Install yellowsn0w. Run it.
5. Turn off the iPhone and install your third party SIM.
   NB: f you are in the U.S. and are trying this with T-Mobile, you must turn off the 3G switch in Settings.
6. Turn on the phone. Wait until your carrier pops up. If it doesn’t, take the SIM out and reinstall it.

QuickPwn 2.1 for Window Released

iPhoneDevTeam have released the windows version of QuickPwn. QuickPwn can unlock and jailbreak iPhone 1st gen devices. But if you are on 3G version, don’t install QuickPwn. You will have to wait for Pwnage to update QuickPwn and WinPwn to support unlocking of iPhone 3G. Here is what their blog has to say:

QuickPwn Supports 2.1 firmware with the unlocking and jailbreaking of iPhone 1st generation (2G) device. Your device will need to be upgraded to 2.1 (using iTunes before running this application.

iPhone Dev Team have updated their blog with this post “QuickPwn - fake sites“. As per these guys - there are lots of fake sites using the QuickPwn name, these muppets don’t know anything special, and they don’t have anything unique. 

As we’ve mentioned before we don’t accept donations and we certainly don’t allow ads on our site, anyone who asks for donations in our name is lying, end of story.

Here is what iPhone Dev Team has to say about QuickPwn - Using QuickPwn does not update the firmware itself, this tool is designed to ‘Pwn’ (the ability to install future custom non-Apple firmwares) , ‘Jailbreak’ and install Installer or Cydia on a given device. If your device is running 2.0.1 and you QuickPwn it, it’ll still be running 2.0.1, although it will now be Pwned and Jailbroken, similarly if your device is running 2.0.2 and you QuickPwn it, it will then be running 2.0.2 but the device will now be Pwned and Jailbroken. It will also activate (not unlock) devices that are being used outside of their intended territories and cannot be activated using iTunes.

QuickPwn released by iPhone Dev Team - No Need for iTunes-Based Restore

QuickPwn complements WinPwn/PwnageTool. This has been released by iPhone Dev Team to reduce the hassle of needing iTunes to rebuild/restore your device afterwards. Here is how this sub-app works:

iPhone Dev Team says that it’s a tool that will make jailbreaking a phone more quickly and easily, without requiring a full restore. It’s more convenient because you do not need to make a full IPSW and use iTunes with it, but your phone still ends up pwned and jailbroken.

Currently QuickPwn requires your device to be running version 2.0.1 of the iPhone/iPod firmware. This requirement will change in a subsequent release.
