- Either his cancer has returned or he is recovering from a bout with a “common bug,” as his spokeswoman told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday. “That’s all there is to it,” she said.
- In 2003 Jobs learned that he had a malignant tumor in his pancreas - a large gland behind the stomach that supplies the body with insulin and digestive enzymes. The most common type of pancreatic cancer - adenocarcinoma - carries a life expectancy of about a year.
- It stems directly from the type of cancer for which he was treated four years ago and the nature of that treatment.
- Along with the digestive problems, patients often lose 5% to 10% of their body weight after the procedure. Weight stabilizes within the first year or two for the vast majority of patients.
- Post-operative guides for patients suggest that there will be lifestyle changes but that they need not be drastic. And a survey of patients at Johns Hopkins Hospital found that the overall quality of life of long-term survivors of the surgery is nearly comparable to that of healthy people.

Steve Jobs Interview on CNBC - 3G iPhone Announcement
Posted on 2008 under iPhone Duniya | No CommentI am not sure if I should write about Steve Jobs in this blog of mine which is an iPhone focused blog site. But I guess I can take the liberty this time. This is because Steve Jobs has been my inspiration all my life & my Guru right my college days. And Fortune (money.cnn.com) has just published this wonderful article - The trouble with Steve Jobs. This is a must read for all Apple and iPhone enthusiasts all around the world.
Its a pretty lengthy article though. Talks about Steve Jobs from the “NEXT” days in 90’s to the present “AIR” launch. A must read I must say. Since my blog focuses on iPhone, let me pull out few of the iPhone related information from this article and add it to this post.
The trouble with Steve Jobs
Jobs likes to make his own rules, whether the topic is computers, stock options, or even pancreatic cancer. The same traits that make him a great CEO drive him to put his company, and his investors, at risk.
By Peter Elkind,
Jobs views himself less as a mogul than as an artist, Apple’s creator-in-chief. He has listed himself as “co-inventor” on 103 separate Apple patents, everything from the user interface for the iPod to the support system for the glass staircase used in Apple’s dazzling retail stores.
Jobs’ product introductions are semiannual events, complete with packed houses, breathless blog dispatches, and celebrity appearances - two hours of marketing performance art. Who else could have the nation panting in anticipation of a cellphone? After watching Jobs unveil the iPhone, Alan Kay, a personal computer pioneer who has worked with him, put it this way: “Steve understands desire.”
And even for Apple, conjuring the magic won’t get any easier. It’s hard for a big company to keep growing rapidly, especially if the economy heads into a downturn. Cellphone makers - and even Google - are cranking out new products to compete with the iPhone. The iPod market shows signs of being saturated. Amazon’s new digital-music store is gunning for iTunes, aided by record companies eager to escape Jobs’ insistence on dictating the price for their content.
