iPhone seems to be still rocking in the UK. Vodafone UK has just announced that it has sod over 100,000 units within the 1st week of launch. Over 50,000 iPhones were sold on the first day alone. And guess what, Google was able to sell only 20,000 Nexus One in its first week of launch. iPhone still rules, guys!!!
Vodafone’s UK CEO Guy Laurence commented on his company’s auspicious entry into the iPhone business, “The demand from both consumer and business customers has been phenomenal. They want an outstanding phone on an outstanding network and we’re delivering that.”

3 Stores will start selling iPhone 3GS in Australia starting this July. This will take the total number of iPhone 3GS sellers to 5 in Australia.

Australians will have 5 sellers to choose from (Vodafone, Optus, Telstra, Virgin, Three). We have 2 players in India (Airtel & Vodafone) and US has just one (AT&T)
Interesting!!!

During the WWDC 2009 keynotes, Apple announced that the new iPhone 3GS will hit Indian Airtel and Vodafone stores in August. The date of launch wasn’t mentioned during the keynotes, but I have been told from a reliable source that the launch date might most probably be on 9th of August 2009. Check this keynotes screenshot:

Coming to the $99 8GB iPhone story. This price band will be applicable in the US only. India will not see 8GB iPhone post iPhone 3GS launch and will not get Rs.15,000 iPhone. Simply because Apple is not looking at mass promoting iPhones in India. It wants to keep the exclusivity factor alive in India, even if that amounts to lesser sale. There would be only 2 versions, 16GB and 32GB versions with white and black option.
Airtel will continue to sell iPhone 3GS 16GB for Rs.31,000 (US$660) and 32GB for Rs.36,100 (US$770). Vodafone India might sell these 2 versions at Rs.1,500-2500 cheaper rate.

Just a while back, I got this mail from Airtel India, with the subject ‘The iPhone you’ve been waiting for‘.
When I opened the mail, I felt ecstatic. This is what I got to see:
But when I clicked on ‘Book your iPhone now’, I was completely disappointed. The same form which asked me to fill up the details turned up. It was just a form and there was no mention of how to book the iPhone. Nor was there any mention of date of release or any price info.
Airtel, we all are waiting for iPhone rate and plan details. Are you listning?

When I checked Times of India (TOI) this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see Vodafone’s iPhone 3G advertisement right on the top the first page of the newspaper. TOI is amongst the largest circulating news paper in India. This ad talks about booking 3G iPhone and reserving the iPhone handset by sending an SMS ‘IPHONE’ to 56789 from any Vodafone handset . There is no mention of the launch date nor any detail on different plans for iPhone.
It’s still not clear if Vodafone will be offering subsidized iPhones to Indians (might cost anywhere between Rs. 9000 to Rs. 14000) or unsubsidized iPhones (anywhere between Rs. 21,000 to Rs. 28,000)
Here is the ad for all you iPhone followers in India. This ad has been designed by O&M India:

If Vodafone customers don’t want to send expensive SMS’s, please click here to directly fill in the their details and get notified about the launch and other informations peprtaining to iPhone 3G in India.
And if you are a Airtel customer; to receive more information on iPhone 3G, send an SMS with keyword “iPhone” to 54321 (toll-free).
Airtel has online form which could filled as well – Click here to access Airtel’s 3G Iphone registration page.
