Remember, some weeks back Truphone launched their VoIP app that allowed making local and international calls from iPhone using wifi? This app got kicked out of AppStore with days. And I was searching for this app for few hrs the day I bought iPhone 3G :). Anyways, I think we will not able to see any VoIP app on AppStore atleast. It might be available on Installer.app which works with JB iPhones. A court in Germany has banned use of VoIP on iPhone:
A ruling was just issued by the Higher Regional Court (Oberlandesgericht) of Hamburg, Germany banning VoIP on the Apple iPhone. Specifically, the sipgate VoIP app has been banned - all part of T-Mobile’s ongoing fight to block VoIP on the iPhone.
Apparently, the court felt that sipgate would “lure” iPhone users into “jailbreaking” their iPhones. WTF? Banning software because it might entice customers to do something bad?

I had been using this awesome application on my N95 for quite sometime. It was offering free outgoing calls to US and Canada for almost 7-8months in 2007. I signed up for the monthly plan. The clarity of calls was just too good. And now Truphone is come to iPhone. I guess it just got released as I received the mail just a while back from these guys. Let me now share few of the features of this great new native app:
- Save money on international calls
- Simple calling process through WiFi
- Easy to install
- Only pay for calls you make
- Use your iPhone in more places
Low-priced international calling comes to the iPhone™, thanks to Truphone

Install it now - Its on iTunes
Click here to install Truphone on your iPhone via the iTunes online application store.
Truphone enables you to make calls on your iPhone over the internet at amazingly low rates. It’s brilliant for making international calls from your home country and for making calls when you’re travelling in another country.

Hey, I installed this Native App last evening and had to uninstall within 24hrs. I am not sure if I am the only one who is facing few issues with this app. Since I haven’t found any other blog talking about Fring issues, let me put up the list of issues I am facing. I am sure the new fring updates that is going to come in next few days would definitely resolve these issues. And I am going to keep trying Fring with every update that is released in the near future. Its just that I am a big fan of Fring and had been using this in my HP iPaq for over 1 year.
Issues I faced while using Fring:
- Cannot use Skype - It keep crashing everytime I try to call anybody. I have a Skype out balance but it doesnt seem to work.
- SIP isnt working either - it crashes Fring. I tried to call after restarting my iPhone a few times but nothing seems to help.
- The biggest issue - iPhone ringer volume, click sound, SMS sound and any kind of sound that iPhone makes no more works. When I check my settings I find the ringer volume to be zero. Even if I scroll the ringer volume to max, it immediately scrolls back to zero.
After I uninstalled Fring, I got back my sound and the speaker started talking.
I am going to wait till this issue is resolved. Might be that my iPhone itself has some issues; if that is that is case, I will not install Fring till I upgrade my 1.1.4 firmware version to 2.0 which is going to come by this June.

Some updates on VoIP on iPhone along with Live location tracking feature in 2.0. JAJAH has announced plans to offer a native iPhone application built with Apple’s SDK . The app will work as a full VoIP client when connected to WiFi networks, and use a callback methodology (in which the user calls a designated local number and is then called back and connected to the desired phone number) when using a cellular network.
And a new live location tracking feature was discovered by developers working on iPhone SDK. This location tracker will automatically track the user’s current location in the Maps application on a continuous updating basis. Which means there would be a blue dot in the map and it will constantly be moving indication the users current location.
