Apple might plug in 802.11n WiFi in the upcoming 4th Gen iPhone which might be formally launched in this July. Currently 3rd Gen iPhone and iPod touch has the Broadcom BCM4329 chip and is capable of 802.11n but only enabled for the 802.11g. 802.11n is faster than the 802.11g. Gizmodo dug this interesting news yesterday:
A recent Apple job posting talks about such software support might come soon along with some kind of upgrade allowing for 802.11n capabilities in the next gen iPhone, because it’s asking for a Wi-Fi software engineer to join the iPhone team and bring experience in:
• Implementation of 802.11 a/b/g/n & related specifications.
• 802.11i/802.1x Security protocols
• Good understanding of wireless RF technologies & co-existence issues of 802.11 PHYs with other Wireless interfaces like Bluetooth.
This app was launched just a few days back and is available on AppStore for $0.99. This offer is going to be there for just a week and then it would cost $2.99. Get it now – AppStore Link. Let me now come to MediaShare features. This app is from the same guys who had developed TextGuru, one of the most innovative Cut-Paste app on AppStore.
What is MediaShare?
Most modern mobile phones allow you to transfer your media (videos/pictures etc) to other phones over Bluetooth. While the iPhone has Bluetooth, it doesn’t support file transfers. MediaShare lets you transfer your favorite clips onto your device over Wi-Fi and then share them at super-high wi-fi speeds with friends on the same network.
MediaShare currently supports the following formats (with more to come):
Many a times I get a feeling that my EDGE is slow because of iPhone settings and not because of Airtel. I then go to few websites which test the internet speed on the computer. A few days back I found this pretty cool website specifically designed for iPhone – TestMyiPhone.com. Does a great job. You can check your EDGE, 3G or WiFi speeds seperately.
Yes, this is something I have been waiting for from the day I moved from my iPaq PDA to iPhone. Wanted Fring to produce a iPhone native app. I have been using Fring from last 1 years now and just loved it. I could make skype calls, use my SIP(VoIP) if needed, had all my IP messengers Gtalk, ICQ, Yahoo, AOL and MSN under one app. And now we have Fring on iPhone.
Installed it last night and man this rocks, I have just fallen in love with this app. It has everything. I called up my friend in US using skpye in fring and it worked like a charm(The app crashed a few times though).
This stuff is just awesome. And the best thing about this app, it works in the background. So even if I close the app and move on to use some other app, fring still continues. ANd when there is a message or a call, it starts ringing Amazing.
By the way, Fring is an Israeli startup that offers VOIP & Chat service for mobile phone. Click here for the press release.
A pre-release version of fring for the iPhone available from www.fring.com/iphone
How to Install?
1. Add http://fring.com/iphone.xml to the source list under installer.app (JB iPhones only)
2. Go to Install under installer.app and hit ‘fring’ tab. Install it and enjoy this wonderful native app
